So I got a job offer today. The position is a little lower than the one I'm in. I have seven years of experience and a degree. They ended up offering me the same as I make now. They also offered to pay continuing ed, but I would be under contract with them for two years.
First let me say I like where I'm at now but I feel like I am underpaid. I was hoping this new job would help me negotiate a higher salary where I'm at. Now that they offered me the same I feel kinda lost. So I need some advice from you smart ladies. 1. If I tell my boss about this new job offer do I have to tell her what they offered? 2. If I tell her what they offered what can I say to help my situation out yo get more money.
Any questions you have I will try to answer them as best I can.

Ditto, I'd post this on MM. I wouldn't think you'd have to tell your current boss, though, and maybe you could use it for negotiation to get a raise if you decide to stay. Is it your current company or a new one? If new, will it lead to better opportunities than your current employer?
DH was kind of in a position like this a couple years ago. He was given a job offer. He felt like it was underpaid for the position but it was a XX.X% pay increase from where he was currently working. He took the job offer to his boss at his job and they matched the pay to keep him there. It was a very big surprise but worked out in the end. He was ready to accept the job offer if his current job wasn't willing to give him a raise.
I would just be very careful in doing this. It could have burned the bridge with his current company. Luckily for him they wanted to keep him even at such an increase. It also didn't hurt that he was underpaid to begin with so the raise got him much more in line with what was expected of the title, though it was a little high for his particular company.

It is a new company. It's hard to say if it will lead to better opportunities. The fact that they want me to go to school is a good sign, but this is not my desired field. At my current job I have reached out to various departments but nothing has come of it yet.
