DH mentioned going back home (to south Florida) for our niece's 3rd birthday party and surprising her. She is the same age as DD and they miss each other a lot and honestly we miss everyone also. However, he can't take that many days off of work...And the flights would be $1500 so that's a big fat NO.
He said we could just drive there. Which I think is fine...I'm always up for a road trip. (and the kids were surprisingly really good on the drive up to AL when we moved here) But it would be literally leaving Friday afternoon...driving 11 hours and then leaving either Sunday or Monday to drive back.
Is that nuts? Oh and for those that don't know our kids are 3 and 7 months.
I'd do it if Joey didn't get carsick. I'd just leave late enough that they'd sleep by the 2nd or 4rd hour through the rest of the trip.
That was my plan. To leave around 4 on Friday (they are both asleep by 7)...and drive in peace most of the way...Same on the way back.
If they will sleep in their car seats nicely and you guys really want to, I would go for it. It depends on who we'd be visiting and how badly we wanted to see them on whether or not the trip would be worth it IMO.
I would enjoy getting away for a bit, even if it meant it was only a few days there. I like to travel though, and I get cabin fever at home, so that definitely colors my opinion a little bit.

I wouldn't. I would plan an alternate trip around cheaper flights. We do 7 hours and its bearable but it takes us like two days to recover because its exhausting. At least when we go we have 9+ days to recooperate before the trip home.
oh hell no! Not within that short of a time frame. That would drive me nuts. It will take longer than you think because you will have to stop a lot because of the kids
My DD is 2 and we took a trip to AL which was a six hour drive. I dreaded it bc I thought she would be dreadful in every way, but she did good. It was a drive there drive back so we were in the car 12+ hours. I actually wouldn't mind doing it again.

I would but I love road trips. I would either leave in the middle of the night or late afternoon so you can capitalize on some sleeping time, that definitely makes them easier.
It doesn't sound too crazy to me but that is assuming your kids are decent in the car. DS has gotten better about it but he isn't a good car seat sleeper so any road trips involve some level of crankiness due to shortened naps and we still do it. We just did 3 days in Vegas which was 5 hours each way and it wasn't terrible wth 2 adults. I say go for it!
I would do it and have before. My kids are really good travelers though and always have been. If you really want to go and think your kids will do well, I say go for it. Would definitely be a little easier if you could stay until Monday but not a must.
