A crossfit gym opened on our corner a few months ago. Part of the workout is running down the sidewalk right past our apartment building and back again (almost like wind sprints). One of these people is going to get hit by someone pulling in or out if our parking garage. Drivers can't see people coming unless they edge out a bit, and the runners aren't looking for cars at all. It is an accident waiting to happen.

No plan to call the cops. I was thinking about calling the town/ mayor's office. It's really a safety concern. I don't want them ticketed or fined. I just don't want to hit someone. I'm just not sure if there is anyone. If a gym regularly uses city streets do they need special permits?

TBH, you are probably better off calling the police. I cannot imagine what the mayor's office would do.
Do you have a tenants or owners association in your building? Maybe bring this up at the next meeting, or at least tell the building manager. My guess is the best you'll be able to do is put up signs on the street warning runners of a blind entrance, and another in the garage warning drivers of a pedestrian crossing.

Why would people running on a sidewalk get a ticket?

No, I'd start with the mayor. Maybe even higher than that. The Governor? State Senate?
And also I'd call your apartment complex if you MUST call someone. This isn't the runners fault. I live in the city and many garages either have mirrors or sirens when cars are coming out. This isn't something new that's unique to your parking garage.

In all fairness, many cities do require permits for groups to use public spaces. While individuals are welcome to walk/run/skip/hop down any public street they want to, there may in fact be a statute prohibiting the gym from organizing groups of people to do it.
Whether or not that is reasonable or a reason to call the cops . . . I don't really have an opinion on that.

I realize now it sounds ridiculous. We've asked the utility company if we can get a mirror on the utility pole outside the garage so it isn't such a blind spot, but they won't allow it. I realize it's not the runners' fault. If anything I would hope the gym would either caution the runners or not use the path a high car traffic times (really only first thing in the morning and when people are coming home from work), but that isn't happening. I was just hoping for an idea we hadn't thought of.
