I realize now it sounds ridiculous. We've asked the utility company if we can get a mirror on the utility pole outside the garage so it isn't such a blind spot, but they won't allow it. I realize it's not the runners' fault. If anything I would hope the gym would either caution the runners or not use the path a high car traffic times (really only first thing in the morning and when people are coming home from work), but that isn't happening. I was just hoping for an idea we hadn't thought of.
Wait, how is pulling INTO the garage a problem? Surely you can see a runner on a sidewalk right in front of you.

A mirror doesn't have to go on a utility pole. It can go on the garage itself. Also garage have motion detector sirens or gates, so that's another option.
And how do you know that the gym doesn't caution the runners or that people aren't looking?
I run in the city, so have to dodge all sorts of obstacles, but just because I'm running fast doesn't mean I'm not paying attention to what's around me and cars pulling out.
And really if anyone should be doing the cautioning it's the apartment complex with the garage. People shouldn't be pulling out at 50 mph if that's what's happening and you're so concerned about safety.
Call your state senators, I'm sure they can do something.
It's your job as a driver to look and be prepared for people, notify the apartment complex if you must do something, be prepared they probably aren't going to give a shit. It isn't their problem, nor is it the gyms problem.
My sister called me the other day to see if she should call the cops about a man walkingn down the stret holding a pair of ladies boots in his hands.
What the actual fuck is the Philadelphia police dept going to do about that, Stephanie?!
That's all I have to add here.
I took a self defense and personal safety class this summer offered by our police department. The officer giving it would give scenarios she had been called to or asked about and ask what we would do.
One was a lady noticed a guy walking around the grocery store parking lot holding a single red rose. He was headed for her car, what would you do in this scenario? I'd roll my eyes, make sure my car was locked and drive away. No! She should have called 911. That was suspicious activity the police needed to know about.
I live in a city, not Mayberry. Stephanie can move here, our cops are waiting for calls like that!
I'm fascinated by the idea of sirens at garage entrances and exits. I've parked in at least two dozen garages in downtown Philadelphia and never have experienced this.

LOL I find it kind of bizarre, TBH, that you would consider calling the mayor's office over this.
I would probably do nothing (maybe I'm a horrible person). Or if you are really truly concerned and you are home when they run by, you could always step outside and say something to the runners themselves about your concerns.

My DH is a CF coach and his gym had a similar issue. Due to complaints, the gym owners changed the distance markers to a safer location. If it isn't possible for that gym, I would work with your apartment complex managers. It sounds like it could be a safety issue for any pedestrians crossing. The PP's suggestion of a convex mirror would be helpful.
If all else fails, put up a sign that says "Non-Paleo Zone" or something.

Houses protected by gluten-enriched pesticide mist.
In all fairness, many cities do require permits for groups to use public spaces. While individuals are welcome to walk/run/skip/hop down any public street they want to, there may in fact be a statute prohibiting the gym from organizing groups of people to do it.
Whether or not that is reasonable or a reason to call the cops . . . I don't really have an opinion on that.
That's the way it is here. If you're using public space for a business you need a permit. No free yoga (or crossfit) on the beach!

I would be all kinds of LOL out if I was stopped while running to be told about sidewalk safety by a random person
Oh I agree. But I thought it was preferable to involving the mayor's office and OP seemed really concerned lol.

That route is very likely part of a 400m route they have mapped out, as it's a common running distance for crossfit. It's too bad the gym doesn't seem to care, but not much you can do about a public sidewalk. We run through multiple parking lots. Our members generally keep an eye out, but there's an expectation that drivers are also paying attention. I think I would just let it go and know you need to give it half a second longer to take a quick glance before pulling out of the drive. ::shrug::
