Your training has been solid. You are going to do awesome at this half! I almost always have a couple bad runs right before a race. I think it is nerves and your body getting the bad stuff out of its system so you can rock it on race day. Good luck!

You're going to do great. If it makes you feel any better, my worst run of the year was the last long run the week before my half. It shook my confidence badly, and I ended up feeling fantastic on race day- you got this!

I've been wondering how your kids' season has been going! DD LOVES xc and it already upset about the impending end of season. She has asked if we can keep running through the winter. She is just figuring out that if she pushes herself she goes faster, and her times are better. She PR'ed this weekend too. Previously she had been taking my "pacing" advice all too seriously and was navigating the course like Miss America on the AC boardwalk, jogging and smiling and waving all along the way.
As for me:
What are you training for? Date? Philly half 11/23
What is your training plan for the week? M-trx, T-4.5, W-weights, TR-4.5, Fr-Shock training, S-rest, Sun-1o miles
Any vents/issues? not this week!
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I had to move my long run to Sat last week bc we were busy all day Sun and had a bar crawl Sat PM (LOL), and I killed it, after 2 VERY disappointing weeks
Not sure what I'm training for now. I'm running a trail half 11/8, but running with my husband who is slower than I am, so I'm thinking we'll run together and I'll treat it like a training run. That might mean I'm training instead for the Walnut Creek half 12/13.
Training plan this week (still recovery week): M: gentle cycle 15min, foam roll T: foam roll, swim 30 min W: foam roll, swim R: might try 3 easy miles, swim 30 min F: rest more S: 3 miles S: 5 miles
Vents: none AWs: I'm still glowing over how well I did and felt during Sunday's half!
What are you training for? Date? Newburyport Green Strides Half 10/26 SUNDAY!!!!
What is your training plan for the week? M 4.25 easy recovery T 2 mile pace on treadmill W rest Th easy strength and 2 miles F rest S rest Su RACE!!!!
Any vents/issues? As I mentioned before, I was a little dissappointed with my time from my 10 mile training run on Sunday. I'm over it now. I'll run my best race on Sunday, and if I can PR great.
What are you training for? Date? The Parks 10K, Potomac River Run Marathon 11/16, Kiawah Marathon 12/13
What is your training plan for the week? Mon - Rest, Tues-5mi 6x100, Wed - 10mi 4x1200, Thur - 10mi, Fri-Rest, Sat-20mi, Sun-4mi
Any vents/issues? My left hamstring was really bothering me yesterday. It's never hurt before so that was a little worrisome. It's feeling better today, but I probably should do a better job stretching it.
Highlights or AW's from the past week?I had a busy weekend flying solo with the kids. Despite that, I managed to get in my marathon pace run. I did a dress rehearsal. I hired a sitter for the kids, drove to trail where the marathon is going to take place. I did the first three miles easy and the next 14 at race pace. I even did an out 'n back twice to get used to the mental aspect of going near the finish line and starting all over.
Overall, it went pretty awesome! I felt pretty good for most of the run and was able to maintain 8mm pace. I even ran into mr@gt7301b as I was headed out.

What are you training for? Turkey Chase 5 miler (Thanksgiving day), Holiday Hustle 5K (12/7) and maybe a spring half
What is your training plan for the week? I am on a self imposed rest for the first part of this week to try and heal my calf strain. Thursday night I am planning on running with the LRS group (3 miles) and Saturday I plan on doing 7 miles if I feel okay after Thursday night. So far its been lots of ice, compression and elevating and its starting to feel better.
Any vents/issues? I start the winter running group on Thursday night and I am so nervous. I know no one expect a girl I went to high school with who I haven't seen since we graduated (in 1995!!). The owner keeps reassuring me that there are people of every level there and I will be fine, but I am so nervous.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I ran 3 races in 7 days - Tufts 10K, work 5K and 3 mile shuffle. And I PR'd in the work 5K.
What are you training for? Date? Savannah Rock n Roll Marathon 11/8
What is your training plan for the week? I'm not really sure yet. I have a 10 mile race on Sunday, and it's throwing everything off. I'd like to do decent at the race (well, as decently as I can do coming off of Sunday's 23 miler), so I'm tapering a bit more than planned. I assume my legs will still be a bit off (even though I feel fine). I rested yesterday, and I'm going to do 6-7 tonight, maybe 8 tomorrow, 6 Thursday, rest Friday, a few easy Saturday, and then race??
Question time! Sunday is scheduled to be 15 miles, but I'm racing 10. (So obviously much harder effort.) I'm planning on a mile warm-up and then maybe a 2 mile cool down. That's 13 miles. Since I'm racing 10, that's okay, right?
Any vents/issues? I'm going to need to do a "Pace my marathon" post, but I'm going to let the MCM ladies get through this week, before I unleash my crazy.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I had a pretty great 23 miler and now it TAPER TIME!!!
mrshandy, I really think you are going to be happy with your race choice. Of course, I have never run that race, but I ran my final long run before my BQ on a local rail trail. All I could think when I was on it was, "MAN! I wish this path was wide enough for a marathon." You don't need the frills of a really exciting race, you just need to get in the zone, and get the job done. IMO, a straight out and back is the perfect course for that. Take it from someone who had the turniest (yes, I made up that word) final 6 miles that has ever been run, straightaways will be like a gift from the heavens, and in the end, it can make all of the difference.

Thanks! Although I will miss the hoopla of MCM or another race, it does feel like a little less pressure since there are a lot less things that could go wrong. Few crowds to deal with, no people to run over for the last few miles, no crazy tangents, no Metro/traffic. I think my running partner is still going to race with me. So that will really help!
First I would like to personally thank everyone on this board. I have been mentally and physically off my game and you guys keep me motivated. I just did 20 miles before work (my only day to get it in) and I'm not sure it would have happened without my training check in. Ok enough rambling. Kiawah (12/13) Mon: 5 miles, bikram yoga Tues: 20 Wed: 10-12 Thurs: off Fri: 10 Sat: off, maybe yoga Sun: gettysburg 1/2

20 miles on a Tuesday? How early did you go out? Great job!

Today's my late day at work 12-7:30, so I left a little after 7. Not that early

I vote for squiffiest as the correct terminology.
Go home, Chicago marathon course route, you're squiffy.
Ha! If Chicago is squiffy, then Celebration is face down on the pavement, fully fucking hammered, drunk. al320 knows what I'm talking about.
What are you training for? Date? Cyclocross season, ongoing
What is your training plan for the week? Sat.: 80 minute ride w/openers Sunday: CX race Monday: 60 minute recovery ride Tuesday: Off Wed.: Easy cyclcross ride/practice Thursday: 19 mile hilly group ride Friday: Off Sat.: 60-90 minute ride w/openers Sunday: CX race-State Championships
Any vents/issues? I'm sick with a sinus infection. Ugh! I went to the ENT this morning and plan to try to rest up the next few days. I have turned this week into a rest week.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I got a top 10 in my race last Sunday including a payout. Made me happy!

What are you training for? Date? Across the Bridge 10K
What is your training plan for the week? The one I had has been scraped (see my long whiny vent). Aiming for 2 days of strength, 3 days of cardio, 1 day of Spin
Any vents/issues? I was going to make a separate post, but I'll just pout in here. I had another episode of SVT while running on Sunday. This time I was only 3 miles in. Luckily my running buddy is a nurse, so she talked me through how to break out of it. We walked the 3 miles back to our cars. I called the Dr. yesterday and was told that I can't run until we figure out what is going on. I really hoped that what happened at the marathon was just a fluke and I could continue my normal life, but apparently not. I'm super bummed. I still plan to do my 10K, but I'm going to have to walk it. I think that will be really hard for me because I FEEL like I can run, but then my HR shoots up. I've noticed that my resting HR has been elevated since the marathon and my heart just feels weird all around (this could be paranoia). I went to my strength circuit class this morning and I couldn't keep up b/c my HR kept jumping and then I felt funny, so I stopped. I hate feeling held back. I know I need to listen to my Dr., but I just feel like pouting about it for a couple of days.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? My eating has been pretty on-track! It's been a long time since I could say that
