What are you training for? Date? Austin Marathon 2.15.15
What is your training plan for the week? I'm on week 6 of HH.
T: 3 Miles which I didn't do today because I just couldn't get my butt out of bed. Well, I take that back. I did get my butt out of bed. Took the dog for a walk but then my stomach started hurting. And I was terrified of running with an upset stomach. So back to bed.
W: 5 Miles
T: 3 Miles
F: Rest
S: 7 miles QUESTION: I was supposed to run 10 this past Saturday. Only managed 8 because I started getting the shakes and seeing spots. So I cut it short. Should I try and make up the 10 miles this weekend instead of doing my scheduled 7?
Any vents/issues? Not really a vent or an issue but a timing question. So the last few Wednesdays I'm supposed to be doing 5 miles and then it just keeps increasing. How do you guys fit in the increased mileage on a weekday? Especially other H&F moms? I could probably do a 5 in the morning but no way once it goes beyond that. I've been trying to do my runs in the am before DS wakes up and I hate the idea of those longer weekday runs taking me away from DS time. Weekend runs are fine because he sleeps like a teenager and doesn't wake up until 11ish so I can usually wake up and get in my long runs.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I got nothing.
What are you training for? Date? Across the Bridge 10K
What is your training plan for the week? The one I had has been scraped (see my long whiny vent). Aiming for 2 days of strength, 3 days of cardio, 1 day of Spin
Any vents/issues? I was going to make a separate post, but I'll just pout in here. I had another episode of SVT while running on Sunday. This time I was only 3 miles in. Luckily my running buddy is a nurse, so she talked me through how to break out of it. We walked the 3 miles back to our cars. I called the Dr. yesterday and was told that I can't run until we figure out what is going on. I really hoped that what happened at the marathon was just a fluke and I could continue my normal life, but apparently not. I'm super bummed. I still plan to do my 10K, but I'm going to have to walk it. I think that will be really hard for me because I FEEL like I can run, but then my HR shoots up. I've noticed that my resting HR has been elevated since the marathon and my heart just feels weird all around (this could be paranoia). I went to my strength circuit class this morning and I couldn't keep up b/c my HR kept jumping and then I felt funny, so I stopped. I hate feeling held back. I know I need to listen to my Dr., but I just feel like pouting about it for a couple of days.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? My eating has been pretty on-track! It's been a long time since I could say that
Hugs. I hope you get your heart figured out. Take care of yourself.
ditzydi I'd probably try to do the 10 this w/e, but not stress if it isn't possible.
I'm no help with the other question, I have to be done by 6:30 to get the kids to school, so I get up early and run. The evenings are not a possibility for me b/c DH works and the kids have sports. When I worked in an office I ran at lunch, but not everyone has that option.

I'm so sorry. I hope you can get this figured out, but do be gentle with yourself and listen to the Drs. And think of Rebecca Soni - she's come through some heart rate issues and continued to kick major ass. Hugs to you!

I'm sorry your are still having trouble That sucks.
having been around the marathon/heart issue circuit, some thoughts:
1. BE NICE TO YOURSELF RIGHT NOW. You just ran a marathon. It will take more time to recover than you think, even if you feel okay in general. Even though my legs/body felt fine a few days after Chicago, I still feel like I could sleep for 18 hours a day, and have broken down in tears from being so exhausted on an almost daily basis. Running as much as you did during training, and then for as long as you did during the race is not something to take lightly. I would not be, and still aren't tra la la la about recovery. Go easy and be forgiving to yourself.
2. This heart stuff needs to be addressed before you can really jump back into any cardio that makes your heart go over like 100-120bpm. That's what the doctors told DH when he was having his initial heart troubles in 2012, and also when he was A-Fib after his surgery (which is a type/result of SVT).
3. Has the doctor discussed any diagnostic tests? Perhaps wearing a Holter monitor would be enough, or getting a TEE to figure out what's going on in there would be beneficial, or even a stress test to induce it while being monitored. With DH, it took a large bolus and then decreasing doses of amiodorone for a few weeks to kind of "reset" his heart, and luckily that was all it needed, plus some time in cardiac rehab to retrain his heart that it is okay to work hard during exercise (but since you haven't had any cardiac trauma, a lighter PT or sports medicine plan would probably be fine).
If you've got any questions about stuff let me know. I've also got a friend that has a bona fide heart condition that is an avid runner and if you'd like, I can connect the two of you and perhaps she can help you come up with a plan for your future training. I'm thinking of you
Thanks I am scheduled for a Stress Echo next week. I'm not sure what the next steps are after that. I also don't know if the second episode is going to change my Dr's course of action - I haven't really gotten much feedback about that yet.
ditzydi I'd probably try to do the 10 this w/e, but not stress if it isn't possible.
I'm no help with the other question, I have to be done by 6:30 to get the kids to school, so I get up early and run. The evenings are not a possibility for me b/c DH works and the kids have sports. When I worked in an office I ran at lunch, but not everyone has that option.
What time do you wake up for your runs? I could run during lunch but I don't think I can finish some of the longer runs within an hour.
I'm full time working mom of 2. I usually do my longer weekday runs in the morning or evening. I do work from home 3 days a week and that is my savior. You'd be surprised what marathon training will push you towards. I never thought I could get up before 5AM, but I finally started doing it and that's when I run. Depending on the distance I get up and run at 4:15-5AM, between 8-12 miles. I aim to be back before 7AM. It kind of sucks and rules at the same time. I feel like a rockstar all day (albeit a tired one).
Tonight I'll run after I put DD down at 7PM around 6 miles.
I miss my kids sometimes, but I feel better if I get up and do it before they wake up. In the end, I know they don't need my attention 24/7 and I need running for my sanity. DS loves watching me in my races and that warms my heart.
I'm stubborn and a rule-follower so the only way I skip runs is for injury or illness. Everything else I will work my schedule around.
Having a running partner and a moms running club really helps motivate me! Any chance there is one in your area? Moms Run This Town has chapters all over the country.

What are you training for? Date? Meet at the end of January
What is your training plan for the week? Same story, different week. Bench Monday, Squat Wednesday, Deadlift Saturday. Other stuff as time allows.
Any vents/issues? Saturday was possibly one of the worst deadlift days I have ever had, barring the times the ended with an injury. I missed 85% for a double, and couldn't even move 90% off the floor. Thanks uterus. I know part of the blame lies there.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? And to make up for that I got a bench PR last night. So suck on that deadlifts.

Thanks. There is a MRTT chapter here but I don't think I'm really into running groups. It just seems like it would be hard to sync everybody's schedules to get in a run. So it's just easier to go when I can. Whenever that may be. I've got a 5 miler tomorrow. I'm going to attempt to wake up at 5:30 to try and get it done.

Definitely understand. I was that way first time around. I'm not sure what your chapter is like. But ours had tons of members all with different schedules/levels. The facebook group is awesome for support, motiviation or finding a run that fits into your schedule.
Early morning runs are a lot easier to get up for if you have someone waiting for you.

Usually 4:30-5:00ish. It isn't so bad if I get my coffee after. I'm only just getting into the routine of working again, and I'm only doing it PT. I give mad props to those that juggle training and working, especially with kids.

What are you training for? Date? 15K (11/8), Kiawah Island 1/2 (12/15) <----------YAYSIES!!!!
What is your training plan for the week? TBD
Last week isn't even worth mentioning. I suppose I better step it up if I'm going ot run a 1/2 in less than 2 months!
Any vents/issues? DS came down with another double ear infection over the weekend. Poor thing has been so pathetic and clingy. We're scheduling him to have surgery for tubes soon. Highlights or AW's from the past week? Running a 5k with the kids on Saturday.
Ha! If Chicago is squiffy, then Celebration is face down on the pavement, fully fucking hammered, drunk. al320 knows what I'm talking about.
Okay, I just looked at the course profile.
It's not hammered.
It's TWEAKED OUT OF ITS GODDAMNED MIND
LOL. Yes! Al320 described it perfectly. Total zigzags. Any part of the route that you see that goes across green space or around water, is a sidewalk or a boardwalk, and non-stop zigzags. That section from 20-21.5 hurts me just to look at. Pretty course, though!
ditzydi, I work FT and have 2 kids, and I have a commute of anywhere from 2-3 hours every day (round trip). I have to be down at work and finished with my run by 7:30 to get showered an into my office by 8. I started out slow in terms of easing myself into a really early morning - I started out getting up at 5:30, then 5:15, and now I'm up at 4:45. It gets a little easier if you ease yourself into it, though I haven't started marathon training yet, so we'll see how that foes. I work from home 1 day a week, so I can tell myself that I only have to do this 4 times, and I can reward myself with a little sleep in (till 6) Fri-Sunday. And it helps me to get up that early every day on those 4 days, regardless of how much mileage I have to do. The regularity of the schedule is key for me. If I have to do less mileage, then I have time for foam rolling and strength or swimming, and all of those things would definitely not happen if I adjusted my wakeup time to my mileage.
I miss my kids, but my reality (with my commute and my work schedule) is that I'm not going to see them in the morning either way. And getting my ass out of bed means my kids have a stronger, fitter, happier and better mom. And on weekend runs, I actually like for the kids to see me getting dressed and heading out for a run. I think it's a really good lesson for them, and they learn by example.

What are you training for? Date?
Space Coast Half (11/29)
What is your training plan for the week?
M: nada - stupid work T: 3 ish miles W: lift R: 3 is mi --> birthday run! F: XT maybe S: Rest - stupid family commitments Sun: 5.5 mi
Any vents/issues?
My shin has been a little testy this week. I wanted to up my run/walk intervals on the shorter runs this week but now I'm not so sure.
Highlights or AW's from the past week?
I had 2 fantastic runs this week, including the 4 mile run Saturday. 4 miles is the longest I've run in about a whole year because of injury, and I don't remember running feeling this good ever!
ditzydi I'd probably try to do the 10 this w/e, but not stress if it isn't possible.
I don't have kids, so my schedule is a little more flexible. I can squeeze in up to 7 at lunch, it takes more than an hour with changing, but I just work a little late.
The one thing I've been doing that helps is cooking during the weekend so I don't have to worry about making dinner every night. On the days I did 10-12 after work I wouldn't get home till 7/7:30 and having meals prepared is a life saver. I prefer to run before work cause it just seems like the process of running post work takes longer than running in the AM.
I am nervous for Saturday because i do want to PR, but I also just want it to be over. I am ready to run for fun for a while.
I am feeling the same way right now too. I'm so excited for the race but I have been wanting to go on a bike ride so bad for the last month. I just can't fit it in between, work, home improvements, volleyball, and training. I'm exhausted.
Same on all accounts! I don't even bike that much but it sounds appealing lately
What are you training for? Date? Kiawah half 12/13
What is your training plan for the week? I'm still in recovery mode so I'm winging it. M: 45 minutes on Elliptical T: 3 miles W: 45 minutes cross training Th: rest F: 3 miles S: 6 miles
Any vents/issues? none
Highlights or AW's from the past week? nothing
ditzydi I'm also a working mom, but I don't know if my experience will be helpful. During my marathon training my midweek runs peaked at 8 miles I ran at lunch. My job is pretty flexible so as long as I didn't have any meetings I could take as long as I needed. I also did a lot of morning runs when training for my half. I had to be out of the door to go to the gym by 4:50, I could usually fit in about 6 miles and still get to work on time.

Training? What's that?
Space Coast half 11/29
Schedule...ummm yeah about that.
Vents/issues: Allergies, I am freaking dying. It hasn't been this bad in a couple years. I'm so frustrated. Then there's the foot. I'm about to cry uncle and just give up.
What are you training for? Date? Crossfit Comp 11/15/14. I really don't know how to train other than do the WODs in the comp and run so I can work on my cardio. Possibly a 5K in December.
What is your training plan for the week? Last Sat: 4.28 miles Sun: Rest Mon: CF Tues: 1.2 mile run Wed: CF Thurs: run (at least 1.2 miles, hopefully more) Fri: CF or run Sat: CF or rest Sun: Rest
Any vents/issues? I've never competed and I am worried about not finishing or being last. It's really hard to add in runs on top of my regular CF workouts because my husband watches the little one while I workout. We have a set schedule and I know me running eats into his "me" time. This is why I don't know how far I will run each day.
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I ran 4.28 miles non-stop. I haven't attempted a run since April.
