Too soon? Sorry guys, black Friday is my favorite holiday of the year!
Any places you always hit? Avoid like the plague? What are you shopping for this year (h&g or not)?
I always hit Home Depot and usually Penny's and/or Macy's. I have done really well at HD with special door buster items that they have. Last year I got a dog bed, vacuum, a rocking horse (@callmefia) and huge poinsettias.
I avoid Kohls. The lines are always over an hour long. And I don't generally even see anything that great.
I'm not sure what is on my list this year yet. That's why I'm thinking about it. We need a new saw, so I will probably keep an eye out. Usually tool deals are like for what's in stock and they will have 2 on the shelf.
I have worked every black Friday for the last 8 years. It's a big no-no to request the day off. Everyone has to work. Lame. I usually do the Cyber Monday thing though. Last year was kind of a bust though. No one had anything that great.
I won't do Black Friday either. And I'm not liking the fact that some major retailers are opening at 6PM on Thanksgiving day. DH is a manager in a major retail location and he has to be at work at 5pm on Thanksgiving (store opens at 7 or 8pm) which means we get to celebrate Thanksgiving the day before and have leftover's on the actual day.
We rarely go out in the morning. I live near a huge outlet mall that opens at midnight and is crowded until at least lunchtime. My mom and I may go up there around dinner time when all the crazies have gone home from exhaustion.
I'm hoping to hit up kohls online this year and get a new KA mixer. I'm afraid mine won't make it through Thanksgiving, but hopefully.

Yea, I love BF and don't like this Thanksgiving evening crap encroaching on it.

I love love love Black Friday shopping but I hate that it's now starting on thanksgiving. I will most likely hit Walmart but I'm not sure what else since we will be at my in laws and nobody goes with me

We were THOSE people one year and took our 10 month old daughter out in the middle of the night on Black Friday. We were staying at a relative's house, and she was up screaming ALL NIGHT and woke everyone up. She was much happier walking around Target in an Ergo. We walked in right as they were bringing out a cart of doorbuster TVs, and ended up buying one. It was actually a really good night, minus all the "you're an awful parent" stares.
We have a really large family, and usually do hit up Wal-Mart/Target on Black Friday to pick up movies and things like that as part of Christmas presents. We usually save over $100 buying people what we would have bought them anyway. BUT, we have noticed that they usually still have everything we want available at 3pm, and most of the crazy is gone by then
We usually go to Home Depot at a normal hour (I like to sleep.) and still find lots of good deals. We picked up a 13' flexible ladder a few years ago for about $50, which killed everyone else's prices.
I love black Friday shopping. I go with some friends of the family and we do mostly their list. I'll grab stocking stuffer items or other things if we're at a store I wanted to go to. This years gifts will be primarily ordered online due to the nature of the gifts themselves.

My mom and sisters like to go and it is fun to tag along. I usually don't buy much. We will be in Carmel this year - will I see any of my Indy H&G's out?

We've never participated but we likely will this year since we'll have just moved into our new house and need a few things. I'm hoping there are great online deals though so we don't have to trek to stores, but if we have to I am hoping there will be good deals during the day Friday.

We try to be done shopping before TG. (I know.) This year, however, we are thinking of looking around for some extra light strings for the outside of the house, as well as some bulbs for the real tree. So ... I guess HD and KMart?
We spend BF morning at a local restaurant stuffing ourselves with pancakes and feeling smug about being done with our shopping. LOL

Online only! It makes me want to hyperventilate just thinking of alllllll the people in stores that day.... If we can ever move in to our new home (looking like mid November maybe) I'd like to use all of our appliances to see what needs to be replaced sooner than later (possibly w/d, fridge, dishwasher- please dear lord not all at once!) we need a better leaf blower, and some sort of outdoor storage- a big cabinet or small shed? And sliding glass doors. And new storm/screen doors. And and and...
And every year I keep an eye out for h&g stuff I just can't pass up- sheets and towels and frames and kitchen gadgets/ supplies among others (I heart shopping!)

I thought you meant my Carmel, and I was like I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING FOR BLACK FRIDAY NOW; I'M KIDNAPPING mrs.jacinthe AND ktzmoh AND DRIVING TO CARMEL!!! But I gather from context that you do not, in fact, mean my Carmel.
In reality, I sleep in on Black Friday. I only have maybe 4 people to buy for, and I've already taken care of one. I want to get my mom an All-Clad pot, but I'm doubting there will be any good deals out there for that.
Lol! I did this sane thing a while back about some real estate listing someone posted .
I don't get the appeal of Black Friday at all. All. those. people. And I think it is sad that people who work in retail are being dragged into work earlier and earlier and can't even just enjoy having a day off. First it was stores open 6 AM the morning of, then midnight the morning of, and now some people are being dragged into work at 6 PM the day before? It's just ridiculous to me.

I can't get into the TG-night shopping, and I have loved BF for years. I got excited rushing to Kohls at 2am to be near the front of the line. DH has never gone so I was solo unless BFF or my mom were free
My old strategy was awesome. Kohls opened first so I'd grab anything there and be at the check out line by 3:30. Target was next with doors opening at 5am (I scored huge Lego sets at 70% off), Home Depot, and then we'd hit the mall. Hoodies, jeans, etc at usually half price. Then when the ruckus died down (and we ate breakfast) I'd go back to Kohls and buy a year's worth of school clothes for all my boys. And, some for me.
Last year out TG plans didn't warrant BF (nor did the boys' wishes) so I stalked Amazon lightning deals all weekend. It was definitely worth it. I still did clothes shopping, just not so rushed.
I have only done the really early thing once and I scored a ton. My MIL will be here this year to watch kiddos so I might give it a go if there are enough deals to make it worth it. I usually go out mid morning and still get a lot of deals so I will definitely at least do that. For me the key is a plan to know what I'm getting where. I always end up at kohls but you are right that the lines are insane. I might avoid that this year.

I don't typically do Black Friday. There would have to be some truly compelling item, at an extraordinary price, in limited quantities, to snare me. I've already found some of the key items and they don't fall into that category.

I am always working and don't have time to shop. I HATE that along with Black Friday I will be working thanksgiving also. Being open that many hours, many have to work a split shift; so over night Thursday and then back to close Friday.
I used to have a guaranteed 3 days to see family, and now I'm down to just Christmas and Easter. I already miss most family events/parties because weekends are not easy to get off. So, no, I am not excited about Black Friday shopping now that it is Thanksgiving day shopping
I don't love it or hate it. I've gone early early a few times on a cousin outing. It was more about the party than getting stuff. Unless they're handing out free diamonds to EVERYONE I'm not standing in line for anything the store probably only has 3 of in the first place.
Sometimes my sister and I go at like 3pm, get a coffee/late lunch and just wander. The same stuff is on sale, still there and the place is dead. We take Rubes to look at all the ornaments and Christmas stuff.
The past few years since kids, we've just been hitting up the local gift shop places. It's much more fun.
For actual stuff I find better deals if I watch Amazon and other websites about a week later. I'm also in a life stage where $2.99 hammers and sheet sets just do not excite me. It's been years since I've found anything I MUST have.
