I never post here, only lurk, but I loved my 2014 Forester. I traded it in for a car that better suits my business but I miss it a lot. I would drive it again Ina heartbeat if I could afford a separate car for business.
We just bought a 2015 Forester XT Touring, which has pretty much everything. Including paddle shifters and the ability to use a manual mode if you want. You have to shift with the paddle shifters, though, not the stick. Which I think sucks because that's how I do it in my Smart and it's just habit now.
We were considering the CrossTrek hybrid, but I really wanted the EyeSight shit because anything I drive other than a Smart is going to feel like a tank after these past 6 years and it doesn't have it as an option.
I test drove a outback with the paddle shift. It was ...awkward. I'm sure I'd just drive it in auto.
does your forester have a sun roof? I love that sunroof!

Yep! If you love the Forester sunroof, you should see the one on the Jeep Cherokee! It's a double one, but only the front one opens. I think the Ford Edge might have one like that too, but that's too big for our garage.

DH is on his second Subaru Outback (which is now 11 years old) - LOVE Subarus. He is looking at the Crostrek when it is time to get a replacement -- that time not yet arrive - still lots of miles left in that beast.
My dad is fine. They aren't sure what happened. They have ruled out stroke and seizure and he is on a heart monitor and is going to see a cardiologist. He hadn't eaten yet and had gone for a 2-3 mile walk so he might have just passed out from hunger and dehydration. I am just so happy that they are okay. And they were really lucky. They missed hitting two boulders by a couple feet.
This is actually the second RAV4 they have totaled. The last one was a couple years ago when they hit an elk on the freeway going 60+ MPH. They walked away from that unhurt also. I feel like they cats and are starting to get down to their last couple lifes.
They hit an elk and walked away? Wow. I'm glad they weren't seriously hurt in either accident.
May have to keep that in mind when we car shop next.
Are you set on a new car? You seem like perfect candidates for a used one.
Really hard to find a used Subaru in my area - after 6 months of looking for a used one, DH bought his new. That was 11 years ago and the same situation remains today - People keep them til they die - and that takes a L-O-N-G time.

Ditto lys. They hold their value really well, especially in CO. Last night we even looked to see if it made sense to fly to Omaha or some shit to buy one. No dice.
I love my Outback. We looked at the Crosstrek and love the look, but it didn't have enough leg room for my H and a car seat. The leg room in the Outback put it above everything else.
I always really wanted an Outback and planned to get it when we traded in the Legacy. But they don't make it in a manual transmission anymore and I'm pretty set on a manual. Plus it's more expensive than the forester.
I have the same gripe with the Outback. We have a manual 2008 Forester (the last year of the old body style) and just got a VW TDI Jetta wagon with a 6 speed manual for our 2nd car. So far, I love it.

We bought a 2014 Ford Escape in August. We looked at the Outback, Murano, CRV, rav4 and the mazda C5 (or whatever it is called). I hate car payments but we love the car.
i be typing from me phone. typos and grammer dont count.

Glad he's okay. Random, but my dad did that same blacking out while driving and luckily not dying a couple years ago. He did it once again a year later. He's been through tons of tests and they diagnosed him with "global amnesia" - it took him a couple days to a week to get back to normal, but it was induced by stress or something, they think.

Hey, chica!
Hey girls.
So we have owned Subaru legacy wagons, outbacks, and foresters. All manual transmissions. I like the manual transmission and would buy another one - especially if I was keeping it forever. If I was buying a newer one, I think we'd go with a Crosstrek first, then a Forester, then an Outback. They all have similar mpg ratings, and that usually sways me, but in this case, I like having the taller vehicle for winter and mountain driving than our lower outback of past (although the outbacks are taller now also).
Do you only want a new car or are you looking at used/pre-owned certified also? If that is the case, I think I'd go with a Subaru that was only a couple years old or even a 2014 model since the 2015s are coming out now and you might get a slight break on price.

I'm all over the map. We're looking at used, but they hold their value so well that it will still be $10-12K for something with 80K+ miles, and it will be off warranty. Last night, DH tried to convince me to wait until December to see if we can get a good deal on a 14. That makes sense, but December is a long way off!

Our dealer has been out of 2014s since early August. Or at least the Foresters. We were hoping to do the same thing, or to see about a Black Friday deal. But since we'll need it for the hoards of people coming at Christmas who won't fit into two Smart cars, we couldn't wait that long.

Oh, Black Friday! I hadn't thought of that. Good call.
Hmm...I wonder if any dealerships will be open ON thanksgiving so I can get an even better deal while simultaneously ruining someone's holiday.

I hear you on that. My dealership has been BEGGING me to trade in my 2011 Forester. Can't lie, I'm kind of tempted...the 2015 is pretty and I like the backup camera idea.

Wait, WTF? This was THE reason we went with an Outback when we bought our car 2 years ago. Now you're saying Subaru has also taken itself off the acceptable list?

Grrrr.
It's not even an option on the outback and the legacy.
