You guys, I'm exhausted.
I made a post last week about being stressed out for my upcoming wedding (which is this Saturday, holy shit) and mentioned that physically, I've been not so great. Well, my UTI ended up turning into a kidney infection as of last week. So I was on a lot of antibiotics and I noticed that even though I feel better, I still have an annoying ache in my lower left side. I've been on antibiotics for a week and a half and I went back to the dr.'s today. Not only do I still have the infection, they found blood in my urine. Dr. is putting me on really strong antibiotics that will probably require that I need a pants person up until the day of the rehearsal dinner.
Dr. thinks if I still don't get better, I might have a kidney stone or something. Should I try to see a specialist and figure all of this shit out before the wedding this weekend, or just keep taking the antibiotics and wait until after? We aren't going on a long honeymoon, just a trip out of town for two nights.
If I am recalling correctly, they can do a contrast MRI to verify if you have kidney stones, how many, and what size. But at that point, they can't do a whole lot unless you are willing to have surgery (they can blow up the kidney stones with a laser). It might be worth asking for the MRI so that you know if you have passed them all or not if/when they start passing but I would not do the surgery right now. Keep taking your antibiotics, see if you can play around with pain meds until you find one that doesn't knock you out for your wedding day, NO SODA! I'm assuming you are on the prescription strength orange pee inducer (peridian I think its called?).

I don't think I'm on that one. Lol, my pee was definitely a weird color last week though. Dr. advised me to stay away from soda, alcohol and coffee until this clears up

I could definitely use the alcohol at this pointÂ
You should be on an additional script for the uti discomfort, provided your doctor has not decided against it for some reason. I looked it up and it is called peridym. Ask. It will turn everything neon orange but Omg it works. Stack it with Cran-stat pills (will post a link when I am not on my phone), or Marshmallow Root tea if you can't find those.

You think it will get rid of the annoying ache in my side?
Luckily the having to pee every 1/2 an hour and the stinging while peeing has been gone since the first round of antibiotics. Thanks for the tea and cran-stat suggestions! This is my first time having a UTI/kidney infection so I don't know much about over the counter stuff to help.
Additional advice : Ask for diflucan now, because antibiotic induced yeast infection + wedding = no no no no no, and I've found it easier to just get it from the physician providing the antibiotic vs having to call my gyn and explain. Also, I don't know if you are even able to have sex right now, but if you are, make sure that everything is absurdly stupid clean first. Some people have more irritation after using condoms, some people have less. Whatever floats your bladder's boat right now.

It is very likely to help, and you will want it on hand in the event that it is kidney stones and you start passing them because that is going to make the urgency issues flare back up. If you don't want to bug your doctor about it, or if it's cost prohibitive, AZO makes a "urinary pain relief" tablet that is basically the same thing. I would get the maximum strength.

Thanks for the suggestions TC. I was seeing a Dr. at an EMO, I reached out to a PCP and they told me to just go to the ER for testing. So I'm just waiting here now.
Ask about Toradol for kidney pain - it's an NSAID (not a narcotic) that is filtered by your kidneys and is like a miracle cure for my kidney stone pain.

I had a recurring UTI that turned into a kidney infection last year. It was because they didn't culture the urine at first and just gave me the two most common drugs, both of which that strain was resistant to. So it spread up to my kidneys (they did a kidney ultrasound to confirm no stones).
Ok I hate to give medical advice, but holy shit that really sucks to have to deal with this on your wedding, so here it goes...(I'm on a urogyn rotation right now so all of this is fresh in my mind)
Did they send your urine away for culture? That is key. If they haven't, ask them to do that. Sending away for culture will tell exactly what bacteria is growing and can tell what it's sensitive to.
As far as the blood in the urine, if they just saw that on the dip stick, that doesn't necessarily mean much. Again, needs to be sent away for culture to see if there are actually RBCs in the urine, so I wouldn't worry too much about hearing the phrase "blood in the urine."
Lastly, azo/pyridium/phenazopyridine can help with the symptoms. I'd get some of that stat so that you don't have to deal with the pain during your wedding.
Also, drinking tons of water can definitely help.
Personally, I'd probably just focus on trying to get the correct antibiotic and pain control for now instead of going to see a specialist because that in my mind will just make things more stressful for you. But if you can get in to see a specialist tomorrow for example, obviously it wouldn't hurt to get an expert opinion.
Ugh. I've had a kidney infection before. I couldn't describe it except to say "I'm just SICK. Sick, sick, SICK!" I hope you're feeling better soon! I think mine cleared up quickly with antibiotics, so I'm no help there.
In addition to what others have said, try taking probiotics in addition to your antibiotics. My doc always recommends that, and I've never had any of the side effects of antibiotics since doing it that way. Yu definitely don't want to have to use a pants person on your wedding day!

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice and well wishes. I'm discharged from the ER, ct scan said no kidney stones, so thank goodness. Dr. gave me percocet (which I don't intend to take), my urine was sent out for a culture. Crossing my fingers that this will be done soon.
