I really like KUT from the kloth since having a baby. Slightly higher rise to support my little lower belly area. I have two pairs from the rack and I think I paid $60 each there.

Higher rise sounds nice. I am going to check out this brand. Never heard of it, because I kept buying the same brands over and over.
I don't wear designer jeans bc frankly most of them are cut too small for my figure. But I find KUT to be stylish and high quality while also catering to women who have a curvier figure. I have a pair of trouser style and a pair of straight leg and get compliments on both.
I recently bought my first pair from White House Black Market. They were on sale for 50 but usually are 80. They are my favorite jeans ever. They have a higher rise and don't seem to stretch out as quickly as other jeans.
I am another fan of Kut, but if you are 5'4, you will definitely need to have them hemmed unless you can find some ankle lengths. They have tons of them at Nordstrom and Macys (make sure to use a 20% off coupon) and also at Nordstrom Rack, although I've never had luck finding them at my rack.
Another favorite of mine is Gap always skinny - I like dark demin and they also have a higher rise than some other brands. However, of the two, I prefer Kut jeans.

I have been pleasantly surprised (more like astonished) at the selection of jeans at American Eagle lately. Two years ago their fits were so terrible you wouldn't have caught me dead walking in that store. And then the rumblings started here about their jeggings (I was a sheep--bought six pairs online with free s/h last winter so I could see for myself in the privacy of my own home); now they make jeans in like whatever style and length and wash and rise you could possibly hope for, PLUS they are like $40. $23 if you catch a 40% off sale. I got two pairs last month and just ordered a third. Word of caution--their sizing between styles is all over the place, but my store had a huge selection and I was able to lock myself in their fitting room until I got the waist + length + wash right for each pair.
Gap works for me sometimes, although they can go Mom a little too fast for my taste, particularly in the rear end.

I usually am pretty loyal to 7FAMK and COH, but I recently bought a pair of Gap Long and Lean. Love them! The outlet had them for 60% off of $60 the last time I was in, so definitely friendlier on the old pocketbook.
