I'm just wondering. I read everywhere that BF babies eat every 2-3 hours and FF babies eat every 3-4 hours.
DD is 2 hours to the second! I can set my watch by her. I'm assuming early on everyone is on a 2 hour schedule. I was wondering around what age the feedings start to space out - or if they will.
I'm looking forward to an extra hour or so between feedings! I just needed an "end point" to look forward to, you know? But nowhere does it say around when they start the 3-4 hour gaps, just that with FF they do.

I think my baby was every 3 consistently starting around 2 months. She's still pretty much every 3 at 4 months, but in the evenings or when we're out and about it can be as much as 4-5. She's gaining really well, so I just follow her cues.
DD is 8 weeks tomorrow. She is FF & takes 5 oz every 4 hours. Also goes 6-7 hours at night. Been doing that since about 4 or 5 weeks. She did 4 oz every 3 hours til we upped the bottle to 5 oz. I think it really just depends on the baby.

This is what DS did:
0-3 weeks: every 2 hours 3-6 weeks: every 3 hours 6-10 weeks: could go 10pm - 3am alseep, no feeding 10-16 weeks: could go 10pm - 5am 16 weeks +: could go 7pm - 6am
The every 3 hour daytime bottle routine was 6am, 9am, noon, 3pm and 6pm. The 9pm was dropped at 4 months.

By the time she was 3 months, she was going 3 hours. I don't remember exactly when it switched from 2.5 hours. She is 6 months now and her stomach is a clock. 3 hours to the damn minute or she will not be happy.
Today so far she's been getting fussy and giving hungry cues in as little as 1.5 hrs. Growth spurt? She's downing 3 oz at a time now and sometimes I'll give her a 4th if she's still hungry after that. (Also, does anyone else think babies look like little hungry baby birds with their mouth open and pecking at your shoulder and all? haha) I feel like all I can do today is feed her and then get the next bottle ready. I've tried 5 times to get her laundry from the dryer to her room and away and so far I've failed. lol. This chick is forever hungry!
@tambcat the info I had also said 3-4 hours for newborns and I at first thought "Score! A benefit to formula feeding!!" Then it didn't happen. bummer.
DD1 - every 3 hours from the start until 3mos, when she started sleeping 11-6.
DD2 - every 2.5-3 hours until 5/6 weeks, then every 3/4 hours since. We started getting one early evening/nighttime stretch of 6/7 hours around the time she turned 3 mos.
DS is 5 weeks old and breastfed. He goes anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 hours between feeds during the day, and then has a 5 hour stretch at night, followed by 2-3 hour stretches. He has no set pattern yet. I have heard that they start a natural pattern between 6-8 weeks. I can't remember with DS1, except that in the day he went 3-4 hours, and then at night he woke up like clockwork at 11pm, 2am, 5am and then 9am.
Oh I also saw no difference with time between feeds when I compared a BM bottle to a formula bottle. So ANECDOTE but it didn't make any difference for us, lol.
Same thing for me. We were probably every two hours until 2 months and then we just fed him more based on nap schedule - Eat Activity Sleep You. I told day care to feed him every 2-3 hours when he started at 4 months and they responded to that by feeding him every two hours but sometimes he would take a long time to finish a bottle.

DD is 10 months and I'm still waiting for her to go longer than 2 hours between feeds. I mean she eats solids now but she is an all day bottle snacker. 1 oz here, 2 oz there, etc. It actually felt a little easier before solids when she used to suck down 4 oz in one sitting even though it was every 2 hours. She was also drinking every 2 - 3 hours whether it was BM or FF when she was younger and sleepier.
She also still can not drink more than 4 oz so that accounts for the constant snacking due to a teeny tiny tummy. So it never got "better" for us.

I've got a question:
I looked up this E A S Y routine and it seems like she just does ES with no activity. She eats then falls asleep and is a mess if you wake her so we leave her. Then she wakes again and screams until we give her a bottle then it's sleep again. There really is no activity. Is that something that will come later? I'm a little stressed over the fact that she's never just an awake baby. It's either screaming, eating, or sleeping.
I feel like he was every 3 hours from early on. But it did feel like we were just constantly feeding him in the beginning, so it might have been closer to every 2 hours for the first few weeks.
We did the eat activity sleep you routine up until recently when he dropped a nap or two. He makes sure to let us know when he's hungry

Oh yeah it took my son 6 or 7 weeks before he did anything other than eat or sleep. The sleepy newborn stage wears off soon enough.

How old?
My 9 week old just started being awake for longer periods of time. so I'm working on EASY
I actually made a post on my regular board because I couldn't remember DD being so sleepy and not having much awake time by that age but everyone said it was normal and sure enough a week or so later he started having more consistent awake time

Only 3 weeks so I guess activity is really limited to just a few minutes. That's fine. But it's the constant screaming while awake that is killing me.
So I looked up the book and read about EASY and "accidental parenting". Turns out we've been doing everything wrong. lol. I hate books. BUT, I am stressed b/c she seems to use the bottle to fall asleep OR we have to hold her the whole time so I've decided to see if I can start EASY today and also get her to sleep in her crib and not on us. She's already on a nice routine of eating every two hours and then sleeping but I realized that when she cries after sleeping just 20 min sometimes she's not hungry, probably overstimulated. Apparently, according to this woman, the earlier you start the better.
But who knows. At any rate, she never slept in her crib w/o screaming and she's currently there now sleeping (knock on wood for a little while). Maybe this baby whisperer knows what she's talking about.

Good luck. 3 weeks is so little still so don't worry too much! Also remember the books don't know your baby and situation so they're nice guides but you have to do what's right for you too!
ladybug Oh yeah, when I said "we've been doing everything wrong it was TIC. Every book I look in contradicts the other. BUT, there were some good things in there. I'm shocked I got her in her crib today!
