How crazy would I be to try to travel to my little brother's college graduation when I'll be exactly 38 weeks?
I completely forgot about it coming up.
The town is 1 hour away but I'll say 1.5 hours with graduation traffic. I went to college there, still have nursing friends in the neonatal/birthing units, and used to work with the neonatologists at one of the hospitals (so I know they're good).
Nah. That's probably the farthest I'd drive, but if you're comfortable with the area and know what your plan would potentially be if you go into labor, I'd go for it.
I had plans to go to a wedding back home at 38 weeks. I had DD1 instead, lol, but again, would have known where to go, etc, and it was a very good friend so it was important to me.
I went across the border at 38 weeks for a weekend. 3 hour drive.
Now, I did end up having a baby 3 days after I returned. Still, I feel like there's a lot of fear mongering about late pregnancy and what to do/where not to go. You can't stay at home for 4 weeks waiting to go into labor.
My BFF asked if she could ride 5 hours round trip with me at that point to see a friend and was totally fine, so it depends on the person.
I didn't even attend my own BS or MBA graduations, so I would raise my ranking based on my dislike of graduation ceremonies;). I do like family and parties though if that is involved.
Just are how you feel and make a game time decision.

I think I would do it. Then again, the hospital I'll deliver at can take over an hour from home if there's traffic, so that distance doesn't sound crazy to me. I told H we may just have a call an ambulance if I go into labor at rush hour!
Our hospital says no more than an hour after 36 weeks. I'd venture out to about 2 hours, but not much further. I'll miss our annual NYE party (4.5 hours away) because of it

I went on vacation 3 hours away during week 38. The first doctor I asked had no issue with it, so I booked the vacation. The second doctor was aghast. Anyway, I would go to your brother's graduation.

This is true for me too. I think you are okay to go if you want to and feel up for it.

I would go since it's fairly close. However, I would have had to cancel my plans because I went into labor at 3:30am when I was 38 weeks pregnant with my first.
I'm going home (4 hours away) this weekend at almost 35 weeks, and even though I have my OB's blessing and have had no contractions or anything, it still makes me a little nervous. I'd be totally comfortable with 1.5 hours away though...just go home if you start having contractions.
I agree with everyone else It's unanimous! I think an hour to and hour and a half is just fine when you're 38 weeks, provided you're not contracting and feeling fine.
How big is the school? I'd be less concerned with the travel and more concerned with walking/standing/sitting on uncomfortable bleachers for hours. I went to my brother's graduation at 24-ish weeks and found it exhausting.
Honestly, I'd go and not worry about it too much. Some people drive an hour just go to their own hospital (we may have to drive at least that far depending on the traffic that day).
My OB told me after 36 weeks I should stay within 2 hours of the hospital, but don't be afraid to go within the 2 hour radius (especially for a first baby).

1.5 hours is about the same to my parents house. I'd go, personally, and just maybe leave if you start feeling contractions or anything. I would think you'd be fine!
I'm an hour away from the hospital, 1.5 hours in rush hour. It will be fine. If you are contracting just head to the hospital a little early. Don't wait for the 4-1-1 rule.
If you are feeling good, I would go. I went on vacation - a 1:15-1:30 drive - for a week when I was 37.5-38.5 weeks. I napped a lot, but also walked to and from the beach with gear every day, on the boardwalk for several miles a few times, and even rode a bike (though this was probably not a good idea). And, luckily for me, I didn't go into labor until 5 days after I came home.

My midwife doesn't mind that I am still riding my bike at 37 weeks.

You're able to ride a bike and yet you told the OP not to go because at the same time you're not comfortable in a car, where all you do is sit and not expend energy, for an hour and a half. That seems... very strange.
