Ftr I do still use the candle warmer and coffee mug I got in 2012 exchange.
I wonder if Farmville has such fond memories of her gift from last year? NO, because you are a lying liar and never sent it.
Eh, I tried and tried to make it right. Then I gave up. And recently tried again. So, ya'll can think I'm an asshole. But, there's only so many times I bother trying to rectify a situation for someone who is literally a stranger. A stranger who has never liked me in fact.
So yes, mm (and the greater gbcn) can think I'm an asshole. It doesn't really affect me in anyway. Other than maybe not getting a gift from a stranger... But, eh, it's worth it.

I don't know how to ask this without sounding like I'm being a Scrooge, so I'll just ask it.
So, you make a wish list and a someone buys you something off of the list and sends it to you? And you do the same for someone else? (Here's the being a Scrooge question) Why not just buy something for yourself?

Well, you don't have to buy stuff off of the wish list. It just gives the gifter ideas for what you like. It's fun to wait for a box and see what is picked out for you.

Way more fun then picking your own gift. =)
Last year my SS used my Elfster list as a guide a to see the types of things I liked. She got me one thing off of it and then put her own spin on some of the other things I wished for. I also got some really awesome things that represented the town she lives in. It was so fun to receive the gift!

I am in! Do I need to sign up for Elfster? I need directions!
I wish I could. But, with the upcoming move, I'm not sure when we will lose our address. Most certainly, it'll be lost before USPS will guarantee a shipment to an APO address. With luck, we'll be in a hotel somewhere by Christmas. *crosses fingers* The sooner we leave here, the better. (sadly, I _like_ Korea... I just can't stand the unit DH is in right now, and it's killing off all desire to stay here)

Wish lists are only guides. The fun part is receiving a gift someone chose for you.
I mean, by your logic why exchange gifts with anyone at Christmas? Just buy what you want.

Oh, if only.
Every year my husband and I talk to his sister and BIL to set a limit. Every year I say, "how about zero," but that doesn't fly. It's always a major pain in the ass trying to find something they'd like, and they usually get us something we never use. 100% waste of value.
I thought it was funny, honestly. Trying to get a few laughs out of a bad situation.
But...there isn't anything funny about getting stiffed in a gift exchange.
No there's not. But, I will only try and fix the problem so many times before I give up.
It sucks getting stiffed and if I was in her shoes I'd be pretty annoyed. However, I understand that mistakes happen (sending it to yourself) and that in the grand schemes of things it doesn't really matter.
I used Elfster for an ornament exchange a couple years ago so I'm trying to figure out my account. So far my only questions are:
1) It has a spot for real name and username. Is there a way to just show my username? 2) What's the difference between wishlist and gift guide? 3) Where does it say that only my elf will see my address? If my account is showing both my full name and address, it makes me semi-uncomfortable 4) Last year (and/or other years) y'all did a poll to GTKY/things you like, right?
I put my screen name in the name spot, to keep my name out. I'm not sure the difference between the two. I was wondering the same thing. I have only ever done the wish list.
The address is a privacy setting. I took a screenshot of the privacy settings I set, in case anyone wanted to see them. I think the best way to see that you can't see the address is to leave your address empty, rsvp to the event. That way you can see that you can't see any other addresses of the other participants. I made a dummy account last night and rsvp'd and checked everything to make sure elfster followed the rules. Haha

I don't understand how you tried so hard to make it right and the recipient never received a gift. I guess I don't understand the difficulty in going to the Post Office or something...even I can get to the Post Office with my crazy schedule. So what did you do/not do that the end result was still no gift after apparently trying very hard...just give excuses?
