We are thinking of spending a day at Legoland during our Christmas vacation. DS is 6 and is really into legos - is it worth it? Any insider tips or information?
We went in July 2013 and liked it. DS was turning 7 and it was great for that age. Definitely shop around for tickets since the they usually have a lot of different deals going on. My only complaint was that some of the lines move REALLY slow. There are little gated areas in the middle of the lines where kids can play while their parents continue to navigate the lines. This helped keep my kids entertained somewhat but it still took way too long to get on a few of the rides. The Sky Cruiser was one of the slow rides so we made a point to go there first. We were at the ride within 10 minutes of regular park opening and the line was already 45 minutes long. A short time later the line was 90 minutes and stayed that way through the rest of the day. I feel like Disneyland understands how to keep the lines moving and Legoland hasn't quite gotten it figured out.
We've been to the one in Florida two years in a row. My son loves it (he was 7 & 8 at the time). I'm not sure if the two parks are the same or not.
If you get a subscription to the Lego Club magazine (it's free) www.lego.com/en-US/club you can get coupons for buy one ticket get one free. There are also coupons in some of the lego sets.
We went to the CA Legoland in 2011 when my kids were almost 4 and 15 months. DS1 adored it at that age and pronounced it better than WDW (which he had been to a couple months earlier). DH and I were fans, too--it was clean, relatively uncrowded, a manageable size, and full of rides appropriate for little kids.

It is better in the summer time due to all of the water rides and water park, but even during winter it is the perfect place for boys who are 3-8 years old. It has everything they love! I finally took my 3 year old and he loved it so much I regretted not getting a season pass the year before and took him one more time before we moved away. I do think the one day pass is pricey but when we went, it was pay for an adult get a child pass free, so that made it worth it. Lots of fast food restaurants in the area give out coupons like that.
