Ok, so I was inspired and wanting to do a Halloweenish version of this yarn art. I busted out my basic yarn and started and it does not lie flat.
Is this the nature of yarn? If I had more expensive yarn would it be heavier or lie flatter? Am I supposed to flatten this with an iron between some heat-resistant parchment? Scrap the whole thing?
Halp! (P.S. I obviously haven't trimmed my yarn-maybe that will help the look?)
I would try ironing it. The nature of yarn is that it's in a ball so it's twisted and bent. After time it would probably straighten itself out, but I can't see the harm in ironing it since you've made it this far.

Any idea how you'd iron it? Do I need to cover it? Just iron away?
Oh, and this is hanging for 4 days. Gravity ain't working.

I wouldn't think you'd need to cover it - it's acrylic right? there's a setting for that. I'd do low heat, and maybe put like a flour cloth towel or something thin is you're worried about it scorching.

I use a damp pillow case and iron on a very low setting. Even a lightweight dish towel or tshirt will do. I think the trick is to have the pillow case damp. At least with my iron, if you try to steam below the steaming settings you get water spattering.
