DS has his first bad diaper rash thanks to some mystery diarrhea. I have a few questions.
1) Diaper free time. How does this work for a LO who isn't walking yet and/or when it's cold outside? Do I just keep him in the kitchen for awhile without a diaper? We have carpet in the rest of the house and it's getting a bit chilly outside. I got peed on tonight when I was letting his bum air out after his bath. I guess you'll have that.
2) We've been using purple Destin and it isn't working yet. What is the cream a few NICU moms have recommended here? I feel like a few recommended a cream the nurses used in the NICU.
2. Purple Destin is my go-to so I can't help here. I would put it on really thick, then only wipe for poopy diapers. If you are constantly wiping/reapplying that can be aggravating too.
1. We did diaper free time on tile (on a towel) or in the bathtub, no water obviously. She thought that was fun.
2. I don't know but straight purple desitin doesn't work for us. I combine purple desitin with aquaphor, antibiotic ointment, and sometimes lotrimin. The aquaphor helps soothe the skin and also provides more of a barrier against moisture. The desitin does a good job treating the rash but doesn't do a great job of keeping moisure off their skin and trying to layer never worked well for me.
DD had a bad diaper rash for while. Turns out it needed antibiotics to clear up but before we knew that we did LOTS of naked time.
We have (2) play yards like this. We made it so one of us could fit in there with her but not much bigger. Then we just put thing like this on the floor.
For diaper rash all I will use now is the maximum strength butt paste (here).

When you say layering didn't work do you mean applying one then the other? Do you mix them all in your hand first?
Baby Miro has had a diaper rash on and off since the hospital. Airing him out drives me crazy so we don't do much of that. We have used pads for people with incontinence though. They are basically like puppy pads.
I love the triple paste. When I am consistent in slathering it on it makes a real difference in a day or two.
The doctor was confident his rash was not yeast related, so we never used lotrimin.

Yes, applying one then the other. It would wipe the desitin off the the parts that needed it the most.
I mix it all up in a little ziploc round container with a lid that screws on. 2 parts desitin to 1 part aquaphor (roughly, sometimes I add in a bit extra aquaphor). I add in a glop of neosporin if it's raw and lotrimin if it looks yeasty. Stir it up and you're good to go. It feels really nice, too. Apply very liberally.
I'm following this. We're on day three of a terrible rash. I've been using the purple destin and that normally works
DS' looked better this morning after the bath and airing out for just a few minutes. I plan on trying the suggestions of mixing purple destin with other stuff and letting him play naked in the kitchen for a bit

I use a waterproof crib pad. A towel folded over would work too.
It depends on what kind of rash your little one has, if it's a yeast rash diaper cream wont do much. You can always call the nurse line at your pediatricians office.

With the layer of aquaphor? I plan on some naked time this afternoon.
My experience so far is it either clears up quickly with a zinc cream, and if it doesn't it's yeast and needs a yeast cream (like lotramin or whatever). I've never had to mess around with mixing stuff and the only one that didn't essentially clear up overnight was yeast.

No just the destin and air time. I'm going to mix Aquafor tonight.
