Russian students saying my Norwegian last name is super fun. And my first name is different and never gets pronounced in correctly. I pretty much responded to anything polite that starts with A.
My poor daughter's name is always, always pronounced wrong. It's a lovely name, but I have name regret because she is sick of always having to correct people.
This isn't her name, but it's a lot like naming her Elsbeth, and her getting tired of telling people it's not Elizabeth.
I hate it when I'd called Debbie. I've introduced myself with my name and I expect people to call me that. I have no qualms with very politely asking people to refer to me by my proper name. However, I know people who never get it right so eventually I give up on correcting them.
"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
XH's first name is a famous old actor's last name. It's also one letter short of a regular boy's name. His own family often calls him by the wrong name. And things always get filed by his first name, thinking it's his last name.
My maiden name is equivalent to Smith, and you would not believe how many times people have asked me how to spell it. It's not a word that has an alternative spelling.
My married name is equivalent to smith and it blows my mind when people ask how to spell it. There's only one way!
My last name is the same as a very famous and very controversial singer from the 50's, but with the third and fifth consonants reversed and the accent on the second to last syllable instead of at the end. People always pronounce it like the J is silent, and without the rolled R like total morons. People are so dumb.
I'm just kidding, none of this is true. But the way these threads ALWAYS go makes me lol.
I have two first names and a hyphenated last name. People got it wrong two times today alone. I always say if they get at least two out of four, it is fine.
Listen. Even email address I have includes my first and last name spelled out fully. If you are replying to an email l sent you, I also include my name in my signature. There is NO reason to spell it wrong!
I worked with a person that consistently, over a two year period, misspelled my name via email. I finally started spelling her name (Teresa) wrong, on purpose, just out of passive aggression.
The worst I get is people putting an A in Rachel. My married last name is a male first name with a s on the end, and his whole life my H has had people accidentally mix up his first and last name.
A patient just reminded me of the most common mix-up, but IDK if it counts. My hispanic patients often call me Natalia. And I let them because honestly I think it's prettier. lol. But is translating it to another language really calling me the wrong name? Meh.
I would probably care more if it were reversed and white people were automatically translating a non-English name to English.
I love that Starbucks employees have a pact to spell my name Jeniffer, it must be an inside joke. When I try Jenn instead I get Jan. I have never been crazy enough to say "Jenn with 2 Ns" because no one gives a fuck.

My name us mispronounced 100% of the time by new people! and 90% of the time by acquaintances. The only people who get it right are family and people in interact with daily. It's been like this my whole life. Teachers hardly bothered to learn it. It's not that hard, really. There's a legit alternate pronunciation, but it's spelled the same. Doesn't matter how many times I correct.
My girls ask me why does so and so call you ---?
I correct people a few times, after that I figure they just don't give a shit, because it's really not that hard. When people do get it right, they usually love it
When going out anywhere he have to give a name, I either give dh's, or just a nickname of mine. It's easier that way. I never go to Starbucks, now I'm curious what they'd do to my name.
I have a coworker with a name that sounds very much like a more traditional name (think Carin instead of Karen). Her name is one letter off from the more traditional name and she gets called the traditional name all the time. Even by people who have known her for a while.
When I was coaching, my assistant coach was named Nichelle. She was always called Michelle.
My name is pretty hard to mishear/interpret. I do get misspellings, though. Barbra instead of Barbara.
I say my name Car-a, but get Care-a all the time. It doesn't bother me anymore, so I only correct people if I will be interacting with them on a frequent basis.

My name is Jehan but most people either pronounce it like John or Jihad. I used to be able to say "like Jehan Sadat" but no one knows who that is anymore.

My name is Alisa, like ah-Lisa. People always says Alissa/Alyssa or just call me Lisa, except for maybe H and 2 close friends. All of my extended family gets it wrong too. I don't even correct it anymore, because eh, people will find a way to butcher any name no matter how simple it is.

I have a more unusual name, and people OFTEN, especially in emails, call me Nancy. They both start with N but my name doesn't end in a "y" sound and really isn't similar. And this is after they have seen an email from me, signed with my name, PLUS my work sig with my full name and title, etc. It's weird.
I have an unusual name that is always misspelled and mispronounced.
But the most common reaction I have when people actually meet me in person after hearing my name is "oh wow, you're white" My name is very similar to a popular male african american name. Thanks mom and dad.
