What kind of doctor are you going to? GP? Psychiatrist? Will you be pursuing talk therapy? For my issues we determined that I did not need a daily medication and I was given a prescription for Xanax that I use for emergencies only. Your doctor will determine how to help you immediately and should also help you put together a long term care plan.
You will not need to convince them you have it, just talk to them about what is going on in your life, your symptoms and how it affects you. Try not to stress about the appointment and know that you will be getting some help SOON. In the mean time try lots of deep breathing, walking outside and changing your environment. Also cut down on caffeine.

Thank you for your response.
I'm seeing a GP. I did talk therapy last year which seemed to help a little but meds were never discussed and I feel like I'm too far gone for that right now.
Hugs, I've been there. It's really hard, but calling your doc is a great step.
I see my PCP, and I've been on Wellbutrin for depression, and she gives me Xanax for the occasional panic attacks. In the last 6 or 9 months, my panic attacks have been out of control, and really debilitating. I made an appointment with her and saw her a few weeks ago, and she adding Paxil in addition to the Wellbutrin to help with my anxiety attacks, as well as renewed my Xanax. I was crying to her in the office.
I've been on the Paxil for 3 weeks, and it's amazing the difference. I'm starting to feel like myself again; I hadn't realized how bad it had gotten.
