But, I am all kinds of LOL at people on my FB freaking out about the company that makes plush toys of microbes having an Ebola one.
The most amusing part to me is that they have TONS of them, and have been making them for years, but people are all OMG HOW SICK at the Ebola on specifically because it's 'too current'.
Also, I am *thisclose* to ordering one, partly for the giggle-factor and also because they donate to Ebola related organizations etc.
These have been around for 10+ years. I do already have Ebola, sleeping sickness, chicken pox, flesh eating bacteria, black death, mono, the common cold and a few others that I don't remember off the top of my head. FWIW, I'm a microbiologist.
I used to order from a biological supply company that would throw one of these into the box with each order as a freebie.

My friend found out about these years ago during a March of Dimes walk where they were giving out mini-Pertussis' as part of a campaign to increase vaccination awareness.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BACTERIA
no one ever answers me when I ask this question
Oh, mine is s. aureus, because it's so pretty when it grows.

I have 2 from this collection, flesh eating bacteria (which has a knife and fork on the bacteria), or sleeping sickness, where the microbe is sleeping.
In real life, probably Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans......because I have worked so much with it!

I have red blood cells, platelets, white blood cell, and stem cells. A friend sent me several when I first got sick. (DH filled out the collection) They were a major hit with my doctors. My onco/hematologist fell in love with the red cells so I gave her one.
