Out of curiosity, and because I don't want to hijack thebulldog's thread ... would there be any interest in putting together an OWS GTG, similar to Ragnar Napa or Kiawah?
Possible locations that I've come up with: *Trans Tahoe Relay (essentially a swimming party already) - 10-ish miles as a relay, July 18th, 2015 *St. Kitts/Nevis Cross Channel Swim - 2.5 miles, April 5, 2015 *Waikiki Roughwater Swim - 2.4 miles, Labor Day 2015 *Tiki Swim (San Diego) - 1.2 or 2.4 miles, late September (actual date TBD)
If no interest, that's fine - just throwing it out there as an option.
I'd be up for it - but I'd only be able to promise to train for the distance, not speed. I'd prefer Tahoe, second preference would be San Diego. You could twist my arm to do Waikiki, but if I'm going all the way to Hawaii, I'd prefer something other than that. St. Kitts is not going to work for me.
I'm interested in theory but probably not in practice, because all of those races are ... I don't even know how many hours ($$$) by plane. More than 4. Given the resources I commit to tris, I can't go all in for swimming too. There are enough interesting races near me and drivable on the east coast that if I am swimming next summer (because I am not enormously pregnant and/or pp), I don't think I can justify a destination race.

I'd be interested in east coast races, too - I was just trying to come up with stuff that would be interesting to everyone, had doable distance, and/or wasn't too freaking cold.
ETA: Tahoe barely made the cut b/c of the possibility that people would consider it "too freaking cold", especially since they don't allow wetsuits.

I like to swim and I hope to dedicate more time to it in 2015, but I don't think I can swim 2+ miles or travel to the other side of the country. This sounds so fun though!
