Is anyone else mentally having a hard time with gaining weight? I'm 22 weeks today and had a OB appointment and somehow I managed to gain 11lbs in a month! I'm not swollen/blood pressure is normal etc. my OB was not concerned. (Yet!) I have now gained about 23lbs total. I haven't drastically changed my eating habits and I work out 3 times a week. I was on the thinner side when I got pregnant but not underweight per BMI. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm just freaking out that I will continue to gain at the same rate.

Mine has been going up faster lately but I still have only gained about 10 pounds. I started out a bit overweight though so it's probably good I'm not gaining a ton. I'm guessing since you started out thinner, you will probably gain faster/more than I would. If your doctor isn't concerned, I wouldn't be just yet!
I'm having twins, but I'm up almost 35 lbs at 28 weeks. I was thin before pregnancy and my OB said they aim for 50 lbs. This is the complete opposite from DDs pregnancy where I only gained 16 lbs.
Both OBs (MFMs actually) basically said your body is going to do what it's going to do and as long as you're eating well and BP stays healthy, not to be concerned. I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much.

Yes. I'm gaining at a faster rate than I did the first time around and I hate it. Last time I was basically all belly and this time it's going to my butt and thighs. I currently have two pairs of maternity pants that fit. I can't wear any from my last pg, and I only started this pg 5 lbs heavier.
I cannot wait to have this baby in 10 weeks and be done growing a human. Bring on BFing metabolism, please. Praying it works magic like last time.
I started out about 10 lbs underweight and my doctor told me she wanted me to gain 40lbs. I thought there was no way I would be able to come close to that, I've struggled to keep my weight up my whole life.
Well I think my body's doing what it's supposed to be doing by giving me this incredible appetite, because I have had no trouble packing on the pounds. Right around 20 weeks, I had also gained about 10 lbs in one month and I panicked a bit....thinking at this rate I'm going to gain well over 40lbs! But the next month I went and I only gained 6lbs. I think the weight gain is slowing down.
I remember a few others on the board, mentioned the same thing happening.
My doctor wasn't concerned - she said that women might have months where they have a lot of weight gain and then it kind of plateaus. It seems like that's what is happening with me (although we shall see how it goes in the next two months).
All that said, I know what you mean. It's crazy to see the number on the scale growing at such a rapid pace and even stranger when I see my reflection when I'm out. I'm like, who is this person?
Try not to stress about it! Everybody gains differently. I gained a lot more in the beginning than what most people say they do in first tri and was a little worried, but it's evened out for me now. It sounds like you're making healthy choices and doing what you need to do for the baby, and that's the most important thing.

Yup, i am gaining a lot I feel like. I did start out somewhat slim though(not underweight though), and when I gain weight it goes everywhere, not just belly.
I am lying to myself that it will all melt away with breastfeeding which will also be painless and effortless. Haha!
It did literally all melt off with BFing last time for me! I gained somewhere btwn 30-35 and was at pre pg weight at my six week pp appt. I then lost about 7 more lbs!

I love BFing
Didn't lose it that quick but I've lost the 35-40 lbs gain from each pregnancy in 6-9 months with literally no effort each time. This is my third so hoping the same thing happens. Breastfeeding seems to be a great calorie burner for me too.
If your doctor isn't concerned, just keep on eating when you are hungry. With DD1 I would gain 8lbs one month, then 2 the next, then 8 the month after. It all worked out to where I was supposed to be. I had some complications that kept my weight gain down early on and am still catching up now. Baby has been measuring right along the whole time, which is all my dr was concerned about.
Everyone's body is different and if you aren't going nuts, just assume its what your body needs.
I'm small and gain a lot when pregnant. By the end I know I will look like an umpalumpa. It sucks but what can you do. Just try and not stress about it too much.
I've gained quite a bit so far, but I just can't bring myself to care. Doctor doesn't seem concerned, and I refuse to be hungry. I eat well, continue to work out, and the baby is growing just fine. It'll come off, through BFing or returning to proper training next spring.
It's not worth stressing over, IMO. This is a time in your life it's not about you anymore.
I'm 33w tomorrow and have gained 27 lbs. Between weeks 15-22 I gained 9 lbs and got a warning from my OB. I was up about 19-20 lbs at that point. I guess all this to say that everyone gains weight differently. Mine started off fast and has tapered quite a bit these last 11w (and I'm not doing anything differently...still eating and exercising). Your body is going to do what it's going to do...so long as your doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't be either.

I feel like I am trying to put on what I can now, before my belly is so restricted from these two taking up all the room in my body! I am almost 27 weeks and was up about 35 lbs at my last checkup. My total weight is what I weighed when I delivered DD. With another 10 weeks to go, I think I could crack 200lbs for the first time. But like others have pointed out, the weight gain isn't always linear and you can have times when you are packing on more than your ideal per-week gain (which is an average anyway). Add to that bloat and hydration levels and your weight can fluctuate through the day anyway. Don't stress over it!
And add me to the I can't wait to BF these two, BFing and carrying babies around made post partum weightloss easy the last time around. I figure double that and I will be needing to make sure I don't lose too much too fast!
I know approx what I weighed before I got pg, but I try not to know my exact weight. I haven't been paying attention to how much I have gained. I figure the doctor will let me know if I need to gain more/watch so I don't gain as much.

Thanks for posting this...I am really struggling with it but feel guilty about it because I really do feel lucky to be pregnant, ya know. I think the problem is I always carry weight in my stomach and it's really the only area I'm truly self conscious about. And of course, guess what's getting bigger? I'm trying to hold out until 20 weeks for maternity clothes only because of some stupid timeline I set for myself.
My weight is skyrocketing, but since I'm in the "obese" category I'm only supposed to gain 11 lbs so I know I"ll go way over that.
jennistarr1 I understand what you mean - I have always carried weight in my stomach and been self conscious about it, so it's a hard switch to embracing it. Particularly because I'm not actually showing yet really - so I just feel bigger. I'm hoping things will feel more natural with it when I am actually popping out with belly.
I worked really hard a few years ago to lose almost 50 lbs and have kept it off, so it's a little hard for me to know I'm gaining weight again. I'm trying to just not worry about it and do my best to eat healthy and be as active as I can. But it is a mental adjustment.
