Wally (our doxie) woke up at 2am crying in pain. We were able to get him calmed down and back to sleep but this morning he would barely walk and wouldn't pick up his tail or head. I'm scared it's a slipped disc or something worse. H is taking him to the vet right now so he can be there right as they open at 8.
We had a similar scare last year about this time but it was just a pulled muscle and he was fine after a few days. If it's something worse, I don't know how we're going to afford it. He's in so much pain though. I feel so bad for him. If you could spare some healthy puppy vibes, Wally would be appreciative.
He is one of the snuggliest dogs I've ever had. I'm worried sick.
OMG look at that face!! I hope your doxie is ok. My pom has done something similar and it turned out to be a torn/pulled ligament in her knee on a back leg. With some anti-inflammatory's and pain meds, she was fine.

Poor guy! Good vibes on the way!
As an aside, have you looked into pet insurance? We just signed our guy up, he goes for his annual later today. It's not too $$ ($20 a month). It has a $500 deductible, but it allows $5000/yr. Might be worth looking into if a large bill would sink you like it would us.

awwww Wally! Poor baby. I hope it's just a pulled muscle again, or something that can heal itself with just reduced activity and no major intervention.

We've thought about it but haven't pulled the tigger. I think we're going to have to revisit the idea as Wally gets older and more issues start coming up.
Thank you everyone! No solid news yet but H said they didn't see anythig with the physical exam. He's getting an X-ray as we speak.

Aw poor pup, he's so cute! Our beagle had a slipped disc, and like stellas said, meds and rest fixed him right up. The meds weren't too bad - one set of anti inflammatories and another set of pain pills, plus they gave him a cortisone shot at the vet office. It's so sad when they can hardly walk and won't wag, much less pick up, their tails.
**Update!** No slipped disc, but the vet couldn't really figure out what was wrong. There was a little inflammation on his spine, but nothing too concerning! He's got prednisone and pain killers and he's just resting now. When H brought him home he was walking a ton better. I am so relieved.
