Lurker here...
True story - my MIL gave DS1 the Laugh and Learn Puppy at my baby shower. It became joke-creepy when it would call out "I luurrvvee you" as we walked down the hall before DS1 was born. DS1 rarely played with it, so that was relatively ok.
The night before DS2 was born, it had been left in the living room toy box. At 3am it started playing the same song over and over again, which was creepy enough since it usually rotated songs/phrases. After 5 minutes of the same song, DH got up to deal with it. He came back to bed really shaken up, so I asked what happened. He said that as soon as he reached down to pick it up, it stopped playing music and said "Peek-a-boo, I see you!" No joke. He locked it in the garage. I laughed so hard I cried.
That Laugh and Learn Puppy is the worst thing ever made. I got rid of ours at a big consignment sale and when I dropped it off there were at least 40 of them on the table.

Guns and Captain Underpants. OMG how I loathed that series. I banned it after the boys discussed how they'd (do something, I dont remember what) in the toilet when they got home, just like Captain Underpants!
Right now I avoid toys with characters on them. I know it's only a matter of time before he clues into them, but he doesn't know or care who Mickey Mouse or Elmo is.
I don't buy toys (or anything) with characters on it either. I HATE the branding. lol. Plus, I think most of that stuff is uglier ha ha.
We also ban guns although we have a cross bow nerf thingie (well it is DH's ha) and so I am sure that is sending a mixed message.Other than that pretty much nothing.
Is your H Daryl Dixon? Cause if he is.... well done karinothing.
Any kind of gun/shooting toy. the tiny Legos- bc those will get lost in 5 minutes and will only be found when stepped on His own tablet. We have a Kindle that we share, but H & I don't think he needs one if his own.

Nothing yet, but she's only 8 months old. I wouldn't ban, but I also probably wouldn't buy, Disney princess stuff. I'm sure she'll get enough of it from other people as gifts, but I'm not planning on encouraging it.

When she was younger I was all no barbies, princess stuff or anything too pink. Guess what I just bought DD for her upcoming birthday? A barbie set covered in pink crap.
I WISH my neighbors banned the real life looking and very loud machine gun that their 6 yr old son walks up and down the street pointing and shooting at things with every few days.

The only outright ban in our house is on violent toys like guns, video games, etc. Who needs toy weapons anyway with a daughter who owns (and knows how to use) nunchucks and escrima sticks? Neither of which is she allowed to use at home, for the safety of the other members of the family.
My sister gave DD a La La Loopsey doll when she visited for the first time. It was a hand-me-down and that thing went into the trash as soon as they left. It actually made me sad that the thing, with its scary vacant eyes and plastic hair was her first doll. LOL.
my h and i come from conservative christian families and we are unreligious (him) and athiest (me). i have received bibles and a nativity set already.
Do we have the same family? We are not religious by my family gives us this stuff all.the.time.
The last unwanted religious items we received were children's books of Bible stories. Which might have been okay except that the Noah one had a page about how he took baby dinosaurs on the ark (the grown up ones were too big, duh), and included a few odd pages of pseudo-science to back up the flood story and "prove" young earth creationism. NOPE. Bye-bye, book!

I don't really ban anything. Sometimes things that are particularly annoying and loud find their way into the donation pile. I don't like Bratz dolls and we don't have any but I don't have a problem with Monster High for some reason.

I hated Nerf guns but allowed them (hello, let's not shoot the cat or the baby). Then I got hit with a Nerf disc in my collarbone and it hurt like hell, so they're all going away. We don't do FPS games either, but my kid likes old school Nintendo so there's no worry.
