You know what is standing out watching this coverage? The reporters keep commenting on how calm and prepared all of the students are. It's like this is just routine or something. I'm really glad they were prepared and knew what to do but it's sad that students have to be so ready for something like this

I just turned on the news. This is so crazy for me since I went to lake Stevens. It's so sad that schools have to worry about this now and as a parent I need to worry about the security in schools.

DD's school district called me (we're super close to Marysville) to inform me that all was safe, etc. Having my 3rd grader talk to me about them doing these drills is really heartbreaking, but on the flip side, it's hard to not be glad they teach them what to do instead of having complete chaos.
What really struck me is when they reported a student saying that the fire alarm went off and they weren't sure whether to evacuate the building or hide in a classroom. It's awful that kids can't be safe even at school. So sad all around.
