Although I'm hoping that these stories are made up to generate more hits. When I worked for one magazine they flat-out told us to make up those short little "reader contribution" stories because the actual submissions weren't juicy enough.
I assure you this letter is not made up. We live on one such block and, while the majority of our neighbors do exactly as we do and buy lots of Costco candy, some people do bitch about it. It makes me cringe but I enjoy reminding those people that I grew up in the "poor" neighborhoods these kids come from. It always makes for an awkward conversation thereafter
Your post earleir this week that you get 1100 ToTers made me , but I love that you make sure you have enough. You are good people (rose)
Handing out candy is like my favorite thing ever. I'm glad that we've gotten more kids each year we've been in our house.
Dude needs to get over it and eat a snickers.
We are totally with you and @marshmallows ....we got 150+ kids last year and it is so cool. We totally overdo the candy and give out like 3 pieces per kid because little kids in costume saying the cutest version of "trick or treat" ever make us goofy. I could care less if they come on trailers and by the truck load. It is like a parade for us, we drag out our lawn chairs and enjoy the show. We did learn not to try to go back and forth to the door after a couple of years running, lol. And the doorbell was maddening.
Halloween is easily the best thing about our neighborhood.
So I guess 99 also doesn't like the idea of Toys for Tots or similar programs?
I remember there being a post or an article recently re: outrage that Toys for Tots kids were asking for expensive video games.
No expensive toys for the poor!
I once had a conversation with a coworker along the same lines - she was annoyed that the little girl (about the age of 8 I think) wanted some sort of Barbie salon or vanity that cost around $50. Coworker was incredulous that the girl would ask for something so pricey.
^o)
Right, because the girl knew to ask for the most expensive thing she could think of. And because she's 'poor' she has no right to ask for things she really wants. She should get a knock off Barbie and a sack of oranges. Got it.

I often hope these articles are fake. And Dude can't be too fancy, otherwise there would be a nice big gate in the front of his neighborhood to keep out the riff raff.
Totally could have been written by my former neighborhood, you know, the ones who complained about a Mexican restaurant opening nearby: " Why didn't they ask what kind of place WE wanted? - "They must have asked the maids!" We had a similar large group of trick or treaters who felt safer than in their streets, where the firecrackers weren't really firecrackers....
I vaguely recall this thread. Someone in your neighborhood did not actually really truly write that, right? Please tell me you're exaggerating for our entertainment.
People like this make me self conscious about taking my son to a neighborhood we don't live in! The last 3 years we lived in an apartment and this year when we are finally in a house its in a brand new neighborhood with only 5 other houses so far.

Don't. Go and enjoy. I would hate to think the person who wrote this is taken seriously other than we all agree 99 is a total jerk.
