1. Would it bother you to reuse a name that is currently already in use in your extended family, twice? We are not close to either person (my cousin I haven't seen in probably 10 years and my H's cousin's FI) so it's not like we naming "after" them. We just have huge families with good taste in names so most everything's been used already.
2. Would it bother you to have a kid with a monogram (not initials) that spell something non-offensive?
2. Maybe- my initials were not offensive (BAR) but with the last name in the middle, it spelled BRA. No 12 year old wants an item that says BRA on it. So words are fine unless they're potentially embarrassing.

1. It wouldn't bother me if I was that distant, no.
2. No. My initials used to be JAP and a name I'm considering for baby would have the initials of ELF. Not a big deal to me. Do you plan to use the monogram much? I don't think I've ever used one so I never considered that possibility.

PHD is awesome! I know a little boy with the initials PMS, so yeah, I tend to think about these things too.
I would be fine using the same name as long as it isn't an uncommon name.
My BIL has the same name as MIL's brother, so his own uncle and no one batted an eye at that. BIL isn't named after him, MIL said she just really liked the name.
1. It doesn't bother me. One of my favorite names is James but I have a first cousin named James so DH thinks we can't use it. He keeps saying it's a Jewish thing but he's only been inside a temple like one time so...

OMG I think having the initials spell ELF would be adorable!
Our name is the same as someone in DH's family (but is technically after my grandfather). I'm cool with it.
Our initials will be DBL. Kind of like double. Eh, it's not great, but isn't too bad. I like PHD. My best friend growing up was EAR, I always loved that.
1. No, not unless it was youneek. 2. Depends on the word. Though, traditionally males use initials and females use monograms so I'd have to think of it both ways, just in case. I wouldn't want a Victoria Anne Gomez in case someone decided on the initials instead.
1. Nope. DS has a pretty uncommon FN, but it happens to also be the name of my godmother's father, brother and nephew. (Senior, Junior and the III.) the last time I saw any of them was at a family wedding 6 years ago. I was more concerned with not using a name in use in my immediate circles.
2. I only care about initials that spell something awful. My last name starts with a K, so I didn't want SUK or SIK for DS and from our girl list, I ruled out COK and FCK.
