I usually use 1800flowers for out of town family and have never had any issues. H got me these on our anniversary from there as well and they lasted for quite a while. I was pretty happy with them Attachment Deleted
I thought of that but it's a family friend that is taking in our puppy while we are on vacation, they live in a very, very, rural area.
Rural areas have florists, too. Try checking the yellow pages on line for their town. (Bonus: if it's LCOL it will be waaaaaaaay cheaper than 1-800-flowers or something like that!)

I've never had a problem* with 1800 flowers, but they out source to local florists so I'm sure it does depend on where you are sending them.
*There was a small problem once. I ordered an arrangement with a balloon and the balloon was missing. Customer service was great and refunded a portion of the cost no problem.
I google local florists and order it over the phone. Those flower mills send terrible arrangements in a box that they need to practically assemble themselves
This is good advice. 1-800flowers failed me twice. First time was last Thanksgiving with a delivery to a small town. They never delivered the bouquet because the florist ran out of flowers. Last month, a totally cheesy bouquet (six gerbera daisies) was delivered that didn't resemble the arrangement I ordered at all. I'm done with them.
My mom lives in a small town so I've found that a local florist is SO MUCH better. I did the 1800FLOWERS and FTD and they SUCKED. I was so pissed when I ordered through FTD a month in advance for Mother's Day, picked my $100 arrangement then two days before Mother's Day they sent me an email "oh, sorry! We're out of the arrangements you want. Here's a half-ass, ugly arrangement you would have never paid $100 for a month ago...for $100, sorry, it's all we have and you're fucked because it's 2 days before Mother's Day!"
Never again. I go through a local florist and I know who I'm dealing with and I'm very happy. I've done it the past two years. My advice, go through a specific florist, whatever you do.
