My kids had off school today, so we went to see "Book of Life" (cool movie, BTW). One of the trailers before the movie was for the SpongeBob movie. The trailer included a scene where the characters are at a beach and spot an overweight person sunbathing in the sand. They assume he is a beached whale and attempt to push him into the water, but are unable to due to his heaviness. the whole time they are being very dramatic about how large and heavy the person is.
I am irrationally pissed about that shit being in a kids' movie. Like kids need ideas or encouragement on bullying-type behavior? Likening an overweight person to a beached whale?? Crock of shit. Ugh.
SpongeBob is generally not viewed as a role model.
Well right, of course, but the preview is playing before other kid movies too. I suppose I'm projecting, but I just thought it was really inappropriate.

I manage a theater and studios usually tell us a few trailers they want before and how and we pick one or two on own. If both were pg rated then probably will play together since same target audience. I agree that spongebob trailer is not good for kids to see that message.
