wait, it looks just like vomit. am i missing something?
but i've had an adult liquid projectile-shit on me, all over me. i wanted to die. alas, it was my mother in the hospital after surgery complications. that was pretty much the nastiest moment of my life.
Yes, you're missing the nasty ass smell.
And as far as the pathophys goes, it usually occurs from bleeding somewhere in the GI tract. That's why it's a much worse sign than typical vomit.
no, it's from bleeding in the stomach. it just looks like coffee because it is so dark and granular.
when i was a kid this happened to my aunt when she was over at our house. i was probably only 7 or 8 years old and it was traumatizing; i thought she was vomiting diarrhea. i still remember the smell.
Oh, poor Dr Mofo. My mom worked for a GI for 20 years, and my sister has been an endo tech for over 15. I have heard horror stories.
That sounds like such a yucky profession. Phlegm is something I really can't handle. I couldn't handle being an endo tech.
God bless her, she's very good at it. Although one night at dinner she very matter-of-factly said "I realized today that my life is all balls and assholes," and then went back to her spaghetti, while I almost choked and died.
Sometimes I miss hospital nursing. Then I read things like this, and I'm glad to work in a doctors office.
I still do hospital nursing, but do OB now. Luckily coffee ground emesis and c diff aren't the norm there.
I applied and interviewed for a utilization review job recently. I thought I wanted it because the hours were great. But I was actually SO relieved when I didn't get it. I would miss what I do so much.
I'm pretty happy with where I am currently due to the amount of procedures we do in office. The doc I work with does a fair bit of endometrial biopsies, IUD insertion, punch biopsies, lancing etc. I love that kind of stuff. Nothing makes my day better than having a day packed with that kind of stuff.
