My BFF lives there. This is probably her last year here. I randomly looked at prices and they were under $900 (which is amazing) and so I am going. Alone (no DS no DH) for a week. Eek! I am kind of freaking out but really excited.
I did ask DS if I could go and he said no because I had to make him toast and eggs so hopefully he will not be too disappointed.

Thanks ladies. I am so excited. I was really nervous to pull the trigger, since getting married (and especially since having DS) I haven't spent this much money on myself. It seems so extravagant.

He can make himself biscuits for a week!
Ha right? Plus he did tell me yesterday he was now old enough to cook dinner, so his meal needs appear met
I'm so jealous! I've been trying to make it there forever. (I have a lot of family there) but the timing has never worked out. Hoping in 2015. Have fun!

Tickets are pretty inexpensive in early 2015, hope you can make it out!

You are worth the extravagance. Enjoy every minute!
Enjoy! Where will you be staying? I love Israel--lived there for a bit
My friends live in Tel Aviv a few blocks from the beach, not sure what v neighborhood though. Any recommendations?
That's a great place to be--anywhere near the beach is great. Depending on their apt, don't be surprised if things are shabby compared to the US. My second apt was in the Old North where a lot of Americans live (Tzafon Yashan) and the shower was literally a shower head with a curtain and we had to squeegie the water into a drain after every use. The apts are really different there but most of them are fine.
Prepare yourself for feral cats, lots of them. They won't come up to you, but they will be all over and it can make some people sad or catch you by surprise.
The Port (Namal) is great and I'm sure they will take you there for fish restaurants and cool bars--try all the little plates (satatim) of random things at the fish restaurants. Be adventurous with food and trust your friends for recommendations. Go for hummus in Jaffa (Yafo) and through the Carmel Market (Shuk HaCarmel) for an awesome outdoor market experience. Eat shakshuka for breakfast (eggs poached in tomatoes) and fresh pita (it's like little clouds of yum) and enjoy. Pomegranates are in season so if you see juice stands try it out (meetz rimon). There might be Hanukkah donuts out on streets or in stores so if you see them, you have to eat that.
Obviously I loved the food! Israelis are warm and welcoming so you should have a blast! I'm so excited for you! Let me know if you have any more questions
