Hey guys. I'm mostly a lurker that tries to participate here & there so I hope you guys don't mind me asking for some advice on a situation. I've never had an issue like this so I'm not sure what to do or if I need to do anything.
I ordered DS's costume from Etsy on September 19th. Description says "Schedule time 2-3 weeks". I contacted the seller on 10-7 & said "Item has an estimated ship date for 10/17. Just wanted to check in on the status of my costume" She writes back & says "I'm all caught up. I could work it out to send to you on Monday (10/13" Monday came & went-Nothing. No notification of shipment, or tracking number. On 10/17 I contact her again & say "Has my costume been shipped. If so can I have a tracking number?" She replies "I will give you tracking tomorrow, making another run of package deliveries. You should receive it by Wednesday at the latest."
Wednesday-10/22 came and went. Nothing. I message her and tell her I did not receive it. I get notified of shipment on 10/23 (Thursday). I kept checking it, no activity. Just "Shipping label has been created." I send her 4 messages trying to contact her and she finally responds back saying "It is leaving in tomorrows mail (Saturday)". I send one back asking if it would be here by Thursday, otherwise it's useless. Nothing.
What would you guys do? I'm so pissed off because I spent much more on this costume than I would normally have & now I probably won't even have it in time for Halloween.
Given the item description it should have been done around 10/10 (3 weeks).
UPDATE:
The seller contacted me yesterday & told me that she did ship my item out on Saturday but she's not showing any tracking activity either so she overnighted another costume but "the area has a 2 day turn around". When I track the package, it is indeed moving unlike the previous one, but the description says "Postal Product: Priority Mail Express 2 Day". That is not overnight, correct? I know you guys are probably like "Who cares as long as you get it here by Friday" but the issue is, I'm holding off on painting a new tux I bought him just in case this one shows up. Otherwise I'm going to have over $180 in ONE COSTUME. I'm working the next two days so if it doesn't show up then there's no way for me to finish his costume and have it dried & ready to go by Friday. But it pisses me off even more if she said she shipped it overnight and she really didn't. I don't ship a lot of packages so I'm not sure how this works all the time but wouldn't the description say "Overnight" or "Overnight express" or something of that nature?
ditto pp, and you can also file a dispute with etsy directly. i also wouldn't hesitate to give a negative review.
This too. I do know people have had a harder time with Etsy directly than with Paypal or the CC they paid with. I'd also threaten a negative review. Most sane sellers will do anything to avoid that.

I only had until 10/22 to review the item! I think I'm just going to go ahead and contact etsy. I just messaged the seller to see if she could overnight or 2day ship the item but I doubt I'll even get a reply.
Thank you. Me too. It's a toddler Jack Skellington costume so it's not like I can just run out and grab one at Target or Walmart. That's why I ordered one from Etsy because I couldn't find a Toddler one.
When i had a bad Etsy buying experience, I threatened to open a case with Etsy and leave negative feedback. The mere threat finally caused the seller to get his head out of his ass and offer me a substantial discount on the messed-up item.

This. But I will tell you that negative feedback on etsy doesn't matter as much to sellers as it does on eBay (eBay gives discounts to perfect sellers, etsy doesn't).
I'd want a full refund if it's not here by Thursday.
And I fucking LOATHE sellers that create labels and don't ship for multiple days. HUGE pet peeve.
I just read some reviews from this past week or so and apparently I'm not the only one having issues. There's quite a few on there with the same things happening to them. I messaged her this AM and asked if she could overnight it or 2 day ship the item. I never heard back. I wrote her and told her I was going to open a case because the turn around time was 2-3 weeks and she has told me multiple different times that she was shipping my item & that the tracking # from 10/22 still only says shipping label created.
There was all kinds of Halloween activities planned for my town this weekend that we could have went to if he had his costume.
I ordered a tux off amazon prime for 1 day shipping and I'm going to try to paint some pin stripes on it and throw a Jack Skellington costume together myself.
I would write a scathing review, file a complaint with etsy AND my credit card for a refund. I hate people that lie about getting things done and out and drag along customers.

Sorry, that's sucks and as an Etsy seller I hate that you had a bad experience because I know you'd be less likely to buy again.
I had a less bad but similar thing happen with a seller for Cora's bday shirt. She said 6 weeks and it took closer to 8 and when I checked in with her she never responded. It just showed up one day. Annoying.
I've never had a bad experience on eBay (which I've been buying stuff from for 10 years or so) & I always would see posts here about etsy issues. I don't understand the deal with sellers on etsy. I will buy from there again in the future but I'll definitely be leery.
I still have not heard a response from the seller. I have messaged her 4 times since she informed me it would be going out yesterday & I opened a case.

I really think if etsy rewarded sellers with perfect feedback, you probably would have less issues.
My mom ordered something from a seller who never shipped, opened and resolved a case with etsy (and feedback shows lots of people with the same issue!) and her shop was reopened a couple weeks later and she was back to doing the same shit! I mean, that's ridiculous.
Unfortunately, If/when she finally ships you have pretty much no recourse other than bad feedback (which is give her for the non communication alone).
I thought it said I only had until 10/22 to review my item but yesterday I had the option. Now that a case is opened I can't find anywhere that gives me the option to leave feedback now. Maybe I'm overlooking it.
Diana Prince That sucks I've had a lot of bad experiences through Etsy that make me not want to buy through there, but I do because there are some good ones too.
Costco had an infant Jack Skellington costume, but I can't remember if there was a toddler one. I hope you can make the tuxedo work.

I'm just going to paste this from my other thread about this:
There's still not activity when I check the tracking. She finally wrote me back after I sent her the message about opening the case against her due to the fact she refuses to communicate & she has told me multiple other times she was shipping my item & it still just says shipping label created. This was her response: "Your delivery is a priority 2 day turn around. You should be getting this by Wednesday and I'm sorry for putting any anguish on your end. I am working to get the remaining orders out before Halloween time. I need all the time possible for production."
I wrote her back informing her that it should have been shipped well before Saturday etc. I didn't hear anything else back and I messaged her one more time asking her to tell me YES OR NO if my package was put in the mail on Saturday since there was still no activity posted. Silence of course.
She had good ratings before now though. All of her bad ratings have been from this month, and they are piling up. Same issues I'm having with her too.
No one shop from Unbirthday4me! You'll just be left disappointed & frustrated.
ALSO I just tried to go to her shop after I posted this and I get an error message so I'm assuming she shut down her shop. Just great.
Yep. It was there last night but she was getting terrible reviews left and right.
How do I go about getting my credit card company involved in this? I've never had to dispute a charge or anything like that. Do I just call them up and tell them the situation?
My friend ordered me a housewarming gift from Etsy in April. The seller lives 2 hours away from my house. I didn't receive it until August. I guess she had only great reviews until May/June and then just terrible reviews after that.

I had really terrible luck getting my Etsy case resolved. It took months and months to get my money back, even with Etsy's involvement. Now I always use a credit card on Etsy and will go through them if I have to dispute anything.

As an Etsy seller, and a mom who totally gets the frustration of not having what you want when you need it for your kid, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.
Hopefully she did mail it...lack of tracking info on the USPS website really means nothing so it's possible she did. I sent a package on Friday, with tracking and insurance, and the system showed nothing until this morning when it went out for delivery from buyer's PO. Unfortunately, USPS doesn't have to scan packages and while in my experience they've been pretty good about it, every now and then one falls through the cracks and I have no idea where it is until it gets delivered.
Keeping my fingers crossed it arrives in time! Definitely open a case with Etsy (some of us do care about feedback, although a shop owner acting the way this one is probably isn't among them, unfortunately) and look into contesting the purchase through your CC company if you paid that way, should it not get to you. Good luck!
What kind of credit card did you use? I know through American Express, I can dispute a charge through an online form. They give options for various reasons why you're disputing, which include things like this situation. I'm sure it won't be a problem to dispute the charge with whatever credit card you used.
I bought something from a shop that never delivered and then closed. Etsy refunded me. Her actions should actually make it easier for you to get a refund.
Not that that gets you a costume - hope you get something pulled together.

This is what you need to do!
In all seriousness, though, I'm really sorry you're having problems with this seller. I hope you can get everything resolved soon (ideally with the costume!).

Holy crap! I'm dead hahaha! Those commercials were ridic. I've been working on bow prototypes since yesterday & the tux should be here this evening. I'll update with a finished photo when I get everything done!
At this point I'd hope it shows up and have a back up costume from Costco or something. Why does he HAVE to be this specific thing (mYbe there is a reason I missed)? It's Halloween, it shouldn't be this stressful or cost $180.
Obviously, I'd leave negative feedback for the Etsy seller regardless.
I agree with hermione- I'd buy a backup and return if it shows up. Which hopefully it does. But definitely leave feedback and open a case if necessary.
We’ve simplified product names and Express Mail® is now Priority Mail Express. It’s still our fastest domestic product available*, with overnight delivery to most U.S. locations** and up to $100 of insurance coverage included.***
Nope. I wrote her a pretty angry message yesterday after the mail ran & she replied back "I'm sorry to you and your family. I'll refund your money."
My DIY turned out decent I think. He wouldn't let me paint his face so we had to wear a mask. I hope this isn't huge. I'm adding it from my phone. I wish I would have had more time to really fix it up the way I wanted it but oh well. He loved it and that's all that matters.
