I am 98% sure DD was exposed at the sitter's on Wednesday. (They were separated as soon as they realized the other girl was sick, but they're constantly hugging, playing with each other, DD is at the age everything goes into her mouth still, etc.)
Now she has a 102.2 fever. Shoot. I assume I don't have to call the pedi until/unless blisters show up, yes? I assume pedi has limited Sunday hours, but we've never had to go in on a Sunday.
There's not much a visit to the pedi can do if it is HFM. It's viral, they'll likely just say Tylenol/Motrin as needed. Unless you are just looking to confirm...

Ok, this is what I was wondering.
We have only been once or twice for an ear check, and once for a cold that lingered for 3.5 weeks. I am not experienced in sick visits.
Ick. I would say it wouldn't hurt to have her checked for strep. When I thought DD had HFM turned out to be a strep rash and I didn't take to the pedi right away because I thought it was HFM and pedis don't fix that anyways. I was shocked because I see HFM all the time at school and didn't think I'd be fooled.
I finally took her in because the Motrin/Tylenol did nothing for her fever.
However, if you know she's been exposed, give her Motrin, if it works your probably good and survive until it passes.
I guess we'll just do a wait and see if she gets a rash, and call and ask if they want us to come in or not.
It's what happens when you just think, "Oh. HFM. They won't fix that anyways." Then she doesn't get better for 4 days. :/
Not that I know from experience or anything. :/ Again.
Anyways, I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sure I scared you way more than necessary. If she's had exposure that's probably what it is and the dr. can't do much about it.
I'm a fan of calling the pedi just to get advice straight from them, but I rarely ask for an appointment. I didn't really understand HFM when my girls got it, and so I called when the rash appeared (before then, we just thought it was a cold, the fever was barely over 100.0, so it wasn't a big deal). The nurse was quick to say they didn't need to see her, but gave me some things to look out for and suggestions for Tylenol/Motrin if we wanted to use it, and discussed it being contagious.
It's also nice to call because the pedi tends to know what's going around at the time. I called when DD1 told me she had a sore throat and her temp was elevated. It was a Friday afternoon and the nurse told me to drop everything and come in for a strep test b/c it was going around (and they don't have Saturday hours). I had no idea. Took her in and got the rapid test, and sure enough, strep. Got her an Rx and she was feeling better by the next morning.
