Nope, haven't had one since I was a kid.
I don't see the point, especially because there are multiple strains of the flu and you only get a shot against one type of strain. It's pointless to me. Then again, I rarely get sick (**knock on wood**) but it might be because I drink enough alcohol to kill off most bacteria.
I do because it's offered for free at work. If it wasn't I probably wouldn't. I got the flu shot each of the past four years and got the flu twice, so I'm kind of skeptical anyway.
No. My friend's mother got Guillain Barre from a flu shot and was hospitalized for three months. I'd rather get the flu.
Holy crap! Poor friend's mom, I hope she was able to overcome it completely and it didn't have lingering side effects.
From what I've noticed the past 5 years, about 40% of my friends & family that actually do get the shot end up getting sick anyway, and the ones like me who avoid the shot aren't any worse off for it. Can't tell you know many times I've seen someone complain about getting a bug months after getting the flu shot, so it has all seemed unnecessary to me even when it's offered for free.
Yup, every year. I had the flu once in college and I would not like to endure that ever again. Plus, I am around tons of people at the studio and I don't want to chance it.

I get it every year. If I go visit my dad I need that extra protection. It's true that it only protects against the most active and current strains, but when you're spending time with someone who only has partial capacity in one lung, it definitely gives you some peace of mind.
Yes. Although it (probably) wouldn't be a huge deal for me to get the flu, I would hate to infect someone else for whom it WOULD be a huge deal, like my immunocompromised friends, old people, or babies.

She did. She was very active and healthy before she got sick so that helped a lot.
Normally, no. But I was at the dr office a couple weeks ago getting my physical and they asked so I thought why not, I'm here. And then I regretted it for the next 2 days with a sensitive painful arm and insomnia.
I haven't this year, yet but will. My employer gives them to use for free and since I work in retail and most people are disgusting, festering, bags of germs I take advantage.
Which brings me to my rant: If your child is too sick to go to school for the love of god don't take them grocery shopping. Also if your baby sticks things in their mouth and slobbers all over it...BUY IT.

I've had to take them with me a few times to pick up prescription meds and such when they're sick and I feel awful. I don't let them touch anything and I'm wiping down everything constantly.
I wish they'd deliver meds and sickly supplies for people.

Running in to get their scrips and leaving immediately after is one thing, casually doing you grocery shopping at a leisurely pace while your kids hack all over the gogurt section is another.

Nope, I don't get one.
I have gotten the flu a few times, and while its awful (the worst one was like 10 days of being house bound and in misery) my body tends to over-react to a lot of things (meds, etc) and that worries me. Because once you get injected with things, there is no going back, you just have to ride out whatever happens.
I only get shots when its absolutely necessary for myself or another. The last two boosters I received (different occasions) I felt like garbage for awhile, so it really is something I try to avoid if possible. :S

I didn't say it was dumb. Just that it is pointless for me, personally. Now if there were a shot to keep you from getting the stomach bug that goes around down here every year, or bronchitis, then I'd definitely be going... after having bronchitis a couple of times, the flu is small potatoes to me.
Plus, I do not have kids nor do I work in a job where I'm around random people in public, so it's not like I have regular contact with the masses on a daily basis.

Actually, its three.
Additionally, your body retains enough of the memory of the protein strand of each strain that it makes it so that in subsequent years, even if you don't get vaccinated for the strain you get, your body recognizes enough of the remaining strand that you will likely get a milder case.

There is a vacci for certain types of Pneumonia that is good for five years.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that. It's good that people do get the shot and that it works to ward off the flu for many people, especially those prone to sickness.
It was never a regular thing for me, and I've been lucky I guess that I haven't had one of the more severe strains. I'm okay taking my chances and will assure you I will not go out in public if I happen to get the flu.

Here's some handy information from our good friends at the CDC. Note that, unlike the Ebola, you are in fact contagious BEFORE symptoms show up. And for up to a full week after. So.

I don't. I am allergic to eggs, so I can't. (And yes, there is a shot without a live strain of eggs, however, it is not widely available here, and it has gotten mixed up at some of the pharmacies. Since anaphylaxis is the outcome, I am not willing to chance it.) That being said, last year both my H and I got the flu, and was a miserable week for both of us, so that also sucks.
