I'm attempting this again...I think it's my 6th attempt. I have an idea and not much to support the idea so we will see where that leads. Planning to get some thoughts/structure put onto paper this week so I can start writing on Saturday.
My goal is to get to the halfway point by the end of November. I think I tend to freeze up at the thought of 50,000 words.
I'm attempting NaNo again--this will be my seventh year participating! Last year I got halfway through my novel by the end of November, so I'm picking up where I left off and hopefully I'll be able to finish it--and maaaybe hit 50,000 new words.

I'm in and it's my first attempt. I have an idea for the novel and have been working on plotting, character development, etc.
I'm excited and nervous. I have a tendency to be all gung-ho in the beginning and then fizzle out. I'll be so proud of myself if I make it the full 30 days without giving up and even more so if I can reach 50,000 words!
I failed miserably at this two years ago, but I was in the middle of full time school, work and home stuff. I'm going to give it a more coordinated effort this year. I have a writer friend who keeps telling me I need to write the story of my life, so my story will be sort of a comedic twist on my adventures.
I signed up a couple years ago thinking it would help me get this novel out of my head and I didn't start due to having surgery. I really want to do it but so much emotional shit happens in November that I am afraid to start. I'll be happy to cheer anyone on or provide support in any way, I just don't see it happening for me.

You could always start and just aim for 10k or 25k. Any writing is better than no writing, and it's really fun!

This is true. I guess I've gotta let go of creating the perfect novel the first try and just get it out and edit, edit, edit.
Just curious, how much do you all write per day? 30 minutes? 1 hour?
I've never contemplated writing anything close to a novel, but I've got some stuff on my mind and a focused goal would be nice.
But I definitely wouldn't be able to write every day.
It really depends on how quickly you can write. You need to average 1667 words per day; I can usually bang out that many words in an hour, but the one year Mr. Smock attempted NaNo it took him at least three times that long.
I usually fall behind during the week and try to catch up on the weekend.
This is my fifth or sixth year I think. I think I'm going to write about Forrest's transplant. Maybe.
I was just about to ask if anyone writes anything that's non-fiction.
I think that's about the only route I would go if I did it.
I'm thinking I might write about my time in South Africa. I did some blogging while I was there, but it'd be nice to get everything completely down.
I did a fictionalized account of the time I lived abroad, but I threw in a few obviously fictional elements (uncovering a secret conspiracy in the archives, the mysterious spy society) to keep myself entertained. It was actually really nice to have a "real" story to fall back on when I couldn't think of what to write, so I'd just talk about the places I visited and cool stuff I saw.
I am!! About a month ago, I picked up a novel I started years ago and got from 15k to 86k so I'm totally in for NaNo. I was hoping to finish up the other novel first as I only have like two more scenes to write but I'm bogged down in Halloween costume land so whatever.
I'm not sure what I want to write though. The other novel is contemporary so I want to go historical, probably Regency but I'm undecided.

That was seriously the hardest thing for me the first year I participated. I wanted to edit and perfect my word choice and make it actually good. Then I realized it's more about getting it out. Lots of fun stuff can happen if you just sort of let go.

I'm in. I did it a few years ago and loved the process. I'm trying to write a young adult novel about being a teen in the 80s (write what you know, right?).

I tried it 2 yrs ago and I really liked the plot that was developing then the laptop I was using crashed and admittedly I hadn't backed the novel up.
I think that it is unrealistic that I will do the full Nano because November is always a very busy month for me, but maybe I can start something and see what happens. Basically, I can work on it as it fits into my schedule. I'd like the creative nudge.

I'm here yet again! This will be my 8th year and I'm aiming for my 7th complete novel. I have a plot that I've been developing since July, but my characters are refusing to come up with names. Running out of time here, kids!
This is my first year trying NaNo so fingers crossed that I can do it. I'm going to do a fanfiction because that's the plot that has been bouncing around in my head for ages and won't let me think of anything new. Once I get that out I'm hoping I can write something of my own next year.
I've been a writer my whole life but have always suffered from crippling self-confidence issues. I started working on my novel 13 years ago(for shame), but pretty much stopped once I started having babies. I've poked at it a few times over the past 5.5 years, but have been having a hard time getting back into it.
It's historical fiction and I was 170 pages into what I was assuming would end up being 400-500 pages.

Stupid question because this is (maybe) my first year at participating in NaNo- are you using Forrest's transplant as the base and then going from there?
Everything I think of to write is more fact based and not a fictional novel. #notverycreative
