Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, I really appreciate it!
So far his outcome is looking positive. They took out his breathing tube last night. He is more alert and seemed to recognize family. He was even able to talk a little.
He is being monitored for signs of seizures, stroke and personality changes which can be common with brain injury. DH just got there, his flight was delayed in chicago, and hasn't seen him yet. Drs seem very hopeful, his brain bleed seems to be more on the outside of the brain and not internal which is very good news.
The University of Iowa has an excellent neurosurgeon team, so it's by chance that they were near it when it happened.
Thanks for your continued thoughts, hopefully we'll find out more this afternoon.
UPDATE 2 - Thanks everyone! It's still looking very positive, It's still a waiting game. The brain bleed has stopped and a lot of swelling has gone down. He recognized my Dh and said thanks for coming. He's been in and out of alertness. He still on a lot of pain meds and has a bad headache. Tonight he was able to nibble on some food and he actually got out of bed to go to the bathroom. Afterwords, we was extremely dizzy and had double vision, but some of that could just be from getting out of bed for the first time and pain killers. But the neurologist is looking into the double vision. Overall, his recovery so far is what we could hope for. It's a great sign, he was able to eat, talk a little, recognize the family, and get out of bed and walk. It's still a long road and waiting to see how he comes out of it in the next few days. Thanks for your continued thoughts.
My dad was in a cycling accident a few years back. His helmet saved his life. He no longer has use of one of his pinky fingers and limited sensation in the ring finger next to it, but small price to pay. I hope your FIL remains on the road to health!

Oh and we found out he WAS NOT wearing a helmet. he and Mil go biking a lot, and usually do. For whatever reason, they didn't yesterday. They were biking on a smooth paved bike path. His bike hit a large stick and he flew off hitting his head just right. So use this as a reminder to wear a helmet! Even if you're going around the block with your kids, you never know what can happen! It's not worth the risk of a major brain injury.
