I brought this home today. My h will not be thrilled. It was on the curb. It was free. I was feeling down about missing the $7 MCM chair at my Goodwill. He'll understand, right? I may set it up in the playroom we have been planning on making a guest room, too. Maybe he won't notice.

Totally acceptable. If you're planning on painting it, make sure you get a coat of primer on it before he notices. That way you can be all 'but look at the potential!'
If he kicks you out, you can bring it to my house. It and you are welcome anytime.
That's really awesome! How is the stain on it? I'd be tempted to shine it up and get some of that gel gloss varnish stuff, go over it and leave it.
Let me know what you do with it though. I inherited my grandmother's old headboard. I want to put it in DSs room as soon as I dump the changing table, but I have no idea what to do with it? Paint (It's solid but like 1986 Broyhill so nothing heirloom about it, just cool), stain, leave as is....decisions decisions.
Ok, think he'll notice? Lololol. He is pretty cool with my finds, but i know he is frustrated bc our house is small and I love furniture. We have plans to turn this into a guest room/playroom instead of just a playroom. I'll just tell him that now I have the extra push needed to purge toys. Just need to get a full mattress...

@justdairy surprisingly there isn't much on it in terms of gloss. I know it looks shiny in the pic. I love painted spindles beds, but for now it will stay like this. Maybe when (if) we ever move, I'll paint it.
Wow! All my neighbors throw out are nasty stained mattresses. Great Find!!
Seriously. Broken basketball hoops, old mattresses, rickety folding chairs, check. Anything good? Pretty much never.
A few years ago I was running and went past a really cool chair, and drove back later to pick it up and it was gone. The next day, my co-worker was like "I found the coolest chair on the side of the road yesterday -" and I cut her off and said, "On 7th Street? In front of a condo?" Same chair. LOL.
