That stinks since it's not even her name! If it were her name and Becca were preferred I would probably say to let her work it out, but since Becca is her given name and they're trying to call her something that is not her name I would mention something.
And it never occurred to me a K teacher wouldn't let a kid go by their nickname. As a graduate student I had plenty of people write nicknames on their papers (Drew, Mike, Kate, etc). The first day of class I got what name they preferred to be called and we went with that. DH does the same with his students. Do people really fail K for that?
Drew is aware his real name is Andrew, but only recognizes it when it's Andrew Joseph and that's when he's in trouble. If someone tried to call him just Andrew he would probably be confused lol!

I never made kids go by their full name in kindergarten. In fact, that was a question we asked during the meet-the-teacher meeting - does your child have a preferred name different that what is on their paperwork? Whatever they gave us was what the child went by. I had more than one student whose name was along the lines of "A.J." who had no idea what the letters stood for. As far as they were concerned, they were just "A.J."
Yeah, I would just say something. You could play dumb and say you thought kid said something to you, but "you know how kids make stuff up sometimes. I never know if she's just being silly. Thought I'd ask." She shouldn't just be callin her whatever. Lengthening a name is odd.
DS has a name that could easily be shortened/has multiple NNs.... like Alexander - Alex, Xander, etc. People have tried to call him NNs and we've always told people that he uses his full name. Last week one of the kids called him a NN version and he turned around and said, "My name is A----! Not xxxx!"
I think you handled it well, but I'd probably shoot the teacher an email.
