Well when I quit to SAHM I made more than H...extrapolating that to now, that alone is a $7k+/mo net loss, plus private school is $2k/mo, plus housing, clothes, food, activities, camps, etc. So a lot. Not counting my lost income...maybe 30-40% net. But we could raise children a lot cheaper than we do, plus we have 4.
About 10% The daycare we're probably using is $471/month for 2 days/week. My mom buys probably 75% of her clothes, and the majority of it is Carters from Kohls and Target. No activities, no special food. We use Target generic formula and diapers. We are going to get my mom an EZPass on our account and give her gas money for the 2 days/week she is going to babysit DD.
Really? Are cats very expensive? I know my dogs are crazy expensive but that's because I schlep them to daycare 5x a week since they go bonkers if they're left home alone. I thought cats were more chill, and therefore (in my mind) less expensive.
Totally TIC but cat sitters, vet visits, special diets...mean my "free" cats are not so cheap, lol. I spent $450 on new cat last week.
15% for daycare, savings, food, clothing, diapers. This does not include the health insurance, dr. visits, incremental travel costs, and the house cleaner that I now employ because I've got zero time to do it myself.
I can't even begin to calculate. But, a fortune, considering we pay $50k off the bat each year for tuition plus a million other things throughout the year. More than we spend on ourselves or our mortgage, that is for sure.
Is that for just one kid? Because if so, I am legitimately blown away by that number. Even the most expensive private schools in SF are only high 30s!
We will likely pay around $50k a year for private school tuition for all three of ours in the later grades (right now we pay ~$12k per kid for primary school), but we are in LCOL. We would pay twice that for comparable private schools in HCOL.
