Do you think it's rude to avoid saying "Thank you" when someone continually says "bless you!" after a sneeze?
I have a coworker sitting one desk over from me who does this after every single sneeze, to anyone within a 20-ft. radius of her who sneezes, in a very high-pitched sing-songy voice. It's become a BEC thing for me ... she's nice and I appreciate the thought, but the general tone of her voice and her topics of conversation bug me, and on top of that the "bless you!" thing has become like nails on a chalkboard. My allergies have been acting up lately and so I'm sneezing quite a bit. I sneezed four times in a row earlier this week and she said it after every sneeze ... I jokingly said, "Feel free to ignore me - I sneeze a lot in the fall" and she laughed but keeps doing it. I'm so annoyed by it that there have been times where I've tried to stifle sneezes because I just hate hearing it. Nobody else in our section says "Bless you" after sneezes, just her, so IDK why she doesn't get the hint.
I think I'm going to stop saying Thank You to see if it makes a difference, but I doubt it. I don't want to be rude, since she's nice ... just incredibly annoying.
Also, I've said the word "sneeze" so many times that it's lost all meaning.
Saying "bless you" after a sneeze is such an awkward custom and I wish it would go away. I never say "thank you" because I'm not sure what on earth I should be thanking someone for. Thank you for acknowledging that I just sneezed? Thank you for bringing it to everyone's attention in case they missed my sneeze? Thank you for making my allergies a public conversation?

I'm from the south, but it's thanking for them "blessing " you.

There was a guy at my old job who did this and I also started trying to stifle my sneezes... So annoying.
I half-jokingly apologized to him for sneezing all the time while we were talking at a company party, and he said, "it's not the sneezing that bothers me, it's the yawning! Every time you yawn I just want to take a nap." (wilted) LOL so I started just closing my door.
When I sneeze it's usually like 7+ sneezes in a row. If someone says bless you I'll say thanks after I finish sneezing for good.
DH now says bless you on my first sneeze, gesundheit after the second and shut up on the 3rd. Then he ignores me until I'm done.
I never say thanks more than once.
I actually ignored her a couple times, and on the last one I didn't hear her say anything. I hope it'll break the streak, although I've tried it in the past and she keeps doing it.

My 2 year old says bless you nearly anytime someone sneezes or coughes; he hasn't figured out the difference. If I sneeze in the living room after he's in bed, he will scream bless you until I yell back thank you. His room shares a wall.

I sneezed in a supermarket and a little boy sitting in a shopping cart, probably age 2, shouted "Bless you!" and then I melted into a puddle.
