Is Mischief Night (or Cabbage Night, Devils' Night, etc.) a thing in your area?
I went to Shop Rite supermarket to get lunch today, and there was a sign on the door saying that eggs, toilet paper, and shaving cream wouldn't be sold to minors today.
It isn't that I know of here but growing up it was. I always wanted to be out on mischief night, I had a friend in an area that did all the "mischief night stuff" on Halloween. Silly rabbit, Halloween in for candy, mischief night is for spraying your friends with shaving cream

It's called Devils night in the Detroit area and has a horrible history of arson. They have been working diligently to patrol neighborhoods so it's much less than it used to be but still happens

This is what I remember it being called, and I remember all the news coverage about it. (I am from the west side, not Detroit.)

They don't do it up here.
When I was little my parents always pulled in the pumpkins from the porch on mischief night. I admittedly engaged in some tp action on mischief night in high school.
I guess it used to be way back when...like the 30s. Then reporter for the local paper started a concerted effort to change it to "beggars' night", and encouraged tricks FOR treats. The result is that now the city does trick or treating the night before, and area kids are expected to have a joke or a trick at the ready if they want candy.

I took our pumpkin in last night, just in case, but I grew up in NJ where it definitely is a thing so I'm just conditioned that way. The truth is that I can't remember actually ever seeing any Mischief Night activities in the 11 years we've lived here in VA!

Ditto - we had so many pumpkins smashed. I never smashed pumpkins but I did use TP, shaving cream, and toothpaste on mischief night
I didn't see anything around my neighborhood when I left for work, so either they cleaned it up early or kids in my area are well-mannered.
In my old city I used to see a lot of silly string, eggs, smashed pumpkins, and TP. Once I came home from work and I had my car door open and I bent down to get something out of the passenger seat, and an egg suddenly smashed into the driver's side window. I didn't see a soul around and it creeped me out, so I just shut the door and hurried inside and cleaned off the dried egg the next day.
