I don't know the last time I was asked for ID at the bank. Maybe when getting the cashiers check for our house closing?
They have swipe machines so you swipe your card and enter your pin, nobody looks at your ID for a normal withdrawal and I'm pretty sure they just did that and MAYBE had me show my DL for the cashiers check.

Your bank needs to get with the times.
Lol, ok.
?
You come in here lecturing about signing the back of your card, like it applies to every single person. It doesn't. Calm down and hop off the tiny power pony.

1. I just got a new debit card like a month and a half ago and my signature is already rubbing off, so what am I supposed to do when that happens? Thanks Obama.
2. Lol at the condescending tones in here. INVALID!!1
3. My signature on my card looks nothing like what I sign on receipts in a big hurry. So good luck validating that shit.
OMG, thisā¦none of my signatures every stay 'on'...
Also, you all need to get pin number chip cards. We don't sign for anything up hereā¦(I know why it hasn't happened, too expensiveā¦).
I always thought that was strange. Even before chip & pin was everywhere in Canada, no one asked to see my ID ever. Unlike the U.S. where they ask all the time.
Do you guys not have signature blocks on your cards? I've never been asked for ID to use a credit card. Not sure how Canadians would get flagged for that?
We still have a place to sign, in case we need to sign if there is an issue with the chip/machine.
The only time I was every asked for ID was pre-chip, when my signature had wiped off.

Just because someone chooses not to sign the back, does not mean that it doesn't apply. It does. And just lol, that this is a power thing. I do not make policies, I do not make government regulations - but I follow them to keep my job and you know - not go to jail.

Do you guys not have signature blocks on your cards? Ā I've never been asked for ID to use a credit card. Ā Not sure how Canadians would get flagged for that?
We do. I assumed everyone gets asked, not just me. I was in Phoenix last weekend and was asked a half dozen times maybe. Our cards look the same, just with a chip. Maybe they just ask because they don't recognize the issuing bank? I'm annoyed now if I'm being targeted. Lol.

I feel like asking for ID is way more typical in the US to begin with but it could be that they can tell it is from out of country and want to be safe about it.

I use my credit card and my debit visa all the time over the boarder. I don't remember the last time I was asked for ID.
You are really serious about this card signing business. Would you like to lay on my couch and talk about it?
I may need too! I guess I just don't get the GASP! Horror! that customers have when we ask them to sign the back of their cards. But so and so said put "see ID', and they will do that. No problem!

I have used both my mom's and DH's credit card at places, been asked to see ID, shown it, and had no questions asked. It made me laugh both times it happened. Moral of the story retail clerks usually don't care that much at all they just do what they are told.

I think our bordering states are more familiar with us. We never have problems in Montana and we go all the time. My dog needs more ID there than we do. I've only had my ID checked other places though.
Yeah that's true. I know a lot of shoppers from Vancouver to go Bellingham regularly.
True story. I had a sears card about 20 years ago in college. I wrote "Check License" on the back. The cashier didn't ask for anything and handed me my receipt and said "Thank you Miss Lie-Sen-Cee" Omfg I was like what a moron
I get what you're saying but this is bank specific. Both of the national banks that I managed had gotten to the point that you swiped your debit card and input a pin as the main form of ID. Then for the bigger withdrawals the second form was the drivers license, passport etc.
Any signature verification was the withdrawal item vs. the signature card or older withdrawals.
I have used my husband's card plenty and never been asked for anything, even though he has a clearly male name. Again, why I like the chip.
I use my H's card allthetime time here in the US too, and sign my name which doesn't even match the signature on his card and nobody even looks twice.
We don't even have the same last name! Lol
BREAKING ALL THE RULEZ
When I was 13 my dad taught me to sign his signature and my mom's so I could sign their cards to buy them smokes at the corner store.
POTY, right thereā¦I was the only kid in grade 8 who had their picture up at the convenience store (known at the 'dep' where I come from, which papie could attest to), with a note that said I could buy smokes (only Medallions and Craven As) by the carton and bring them home to my parents.

When I was a cashier at a gas station in high school this weirdo used to come in and use his card which had "See ID" written on it, and if you didn't ask to see his ID he would cause a big scene and threaten to call the police. Finally, someone behind him butted in once and explained all of this. I wanted to kiss that person on the mouth because he never did it again after that.

This is KILLING me! They had to have known right? I hope they were just fucking with you.

As I recall it I think they said it and probably realized it as they were saying it but just handed it to me and I left.
