Ok to mix brown and black upholstered furniture?

We're on the hunt for a sectional for our living room. We have something like this in mind (to give you an idea of the style):


The problem is that 90% of everything is only available in brown and we're keeping a black recliner that we already have.

Thoughts on having them next to eachother?

Normally I'd say mixing black and brown is NBD, but with the items you're talking about, I'd say it's a no. GL finding something.

This. It's okay in accent pieces but 2 major pieces of furniture I'd have to say no as well.

I would mix black and brown furniture with no problem, but I am a person who wears black and brown together regularly. The only thing that would keep me from doing it with the pieces that you are talking about is the light colored pillows on the back of the sectional.

I have black and brown furniture in my living room, but they are hard pieces. I'm not sure if I'd mix upholstered pieces. I agree with TBM, the light pillows throw me off for sure.

There are plenty of sectionals in black, which I think would look better.

I agree that you should stick with black or gray for a sectional if you're keeping a dark black recliner.

Thanks for the Costco idea but we don't have one near by anyway. We are really trying to stick with a larger local store that has something in stock that we can sit on/see/feel/touch.

The exact one in the photo was just an idea of the shape and style, not the exact one we are considering. And i'm actually ok w/a separate pillow design for the back. That's what our couch and loveseat have now and they have held up awesome over the past 9 years (even with the dog sitting up on them all day).

A brown sectional would not look good with a black recliner, IMO. You could always get a slipcover for the recliner.

I have that exact couch (Yay Ashley!) and I love it, so much! The pillows have held up nicely, but I also try to rotate them around every week or so.

The couch cleans up very nicely, too. Plus it's super comfy. Yay!

As for the black recliner. What do you think you'd replace first? You'd probably buy a new recliner before you bought a new couch, right? Then go with couch and worry about the recliner later. Put a pillow and throw blanket on it. No one is going to come to your house and roll their eyes at your black recliner and brown couch.
