My sister wants to get DD a couple for Christmas. I'm fine with it, just not something I've ever thought of. We have Don't break the ice, Don't spill the beans, and Toddler Uno. She loves loves Don't break the ice, couldn't careless about the others.
She'll be 3.5 at Christmas-ish.
Is this an age thing, or personality? She's not big on puzzles either.
Hmm I think it was around 4. She is still not interested in memory games, but she likes Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land. Those are good starter games.
He started playing the matching/memory game and Uno Moo (which I hate btw lol) around 2.5. Around 3 he was into Hi-Ho Cherry-O and Sneaky Snacky Squirrel. He is 4.5 now and loves pretty much all games we have. He plays: Sequence for Kids, Zingo, Uno, Guess Who (today's version blows), Connect Four (he is not that great yet lol), Busytown, and he is still a huge Memory fan.
These all good suggestions. We have Uno Moo and I hate it too. However, Rubes has a heyday flinging the little "cow/people/WTF they are" pieces into the barn and making elaborate play scenes with them...so win that way?
DD1 is about that age and not really into board games or puzzles too much yet either.
If you're looking for ideas, Pengoloo's cute (a memory game), and I like the Super Why ABC game for reading skills. DD1 is getting Operation for Christmas.

My 3 year old love Candy Land and the Sneacky Snacky Squirrel game. I plan to buy more games for Christmas. Unfortunately, so many of the classics (Hungry Hungry Hippo, Operation) get mixed reviews because they've revised them.
DD loves board games. I'd say she got into them about 3.5/4.
We have the typical Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders and Memory. She loves Cootie, Don't Break the Ice and Disney Headbanz. We both really like Blockus. I ask to play that lol.
I think she was 3.5/4 when we really started board games. Candyland and Chutes and Ladders were a big hit. I HATE Candyland and am glad to be past that stage. Other good early board games are the Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel one and the Thinkfun Zingo. She loves the JR Monopoly Party version... but I think she was 4 closer to 5 till she got that.
Oh and I second the Richard Scarry Busytown. We used to play that one a lot.... We live where it is cold and dark in the winter. Board games come in handy!!
My kids started playing games at 3 or so, but did not always get it until 4/5 years old. It was also torture for me because they did not understand the rules, so we just played by their rules. We like candyland and chutes and ladders, uno and go fish. There is also an I spy game my 6 year old still plays.

DS likes memory and is starting to be able to do chutes and ladders... Sort of. He's 3.5. Melissa and Doug makes a fun memory game with a spinner that tells you how many cards can be flipped over at once.
