I don't want to be one of those people. Listing it on local yard sale group, fisher price cradle swing. I have no idea what is reasonable here, and I am slightly emotional about getting rid of baby things. So my judgement might be off. Is one million american dollars too much? Lol
30 is my magic number for that stuff for some reason. High enough that I feel like I got a little something and low enough that people feel like they got a deal.
The second hand kid's clothes/items shop in town prices these things for 1/2 retail price (so $55). From a private party, I'd expect to pay closer to $40. I think it's reasonable to price it at half-price and expect someone to negotiate it down.
Maybe $30? The motors on those things start to run out and get loud during use with kid #2.
I know. I made the mistake of not buying it until she was two months old so basically I wasted a whole lot of money. I was desperate during the colic phase. So it's just been sitting in the corner, and I have been in denial that I don't need the little baby things anymore.
Price it for 50, understanding that people will want to haggle you down, so you'll probably end up with 30-40.
If you start at 30, people will want it for 20.
And then you say "no, sorry, it's as low as I'll go."
I know from these boards that a lot of people try to haggle when it's already priced low, and that just doesn't happen to me very often, both at garage sales and CL. If they do, I'm just honest and say, "well, I paid $140 so I think $30 is extremely reasonable and I won't go lower. No? Okay, next". I just hate when people price high so you can haggle them down.

Maybe. I also know a lot of garage sale junkies (my mom and bff's mom being 2 of them), and part of what they want is to haggle, to feel like they got a "better deal." If they can't get *something* off the price, they won't buy it. Ridiculous, but there you have it.
If Kristie prices it at 50, but is willing to go down to 35, and gets someone willing to pay asking price, she gets 50. If she finds people are trying to get a further discount, she still has a little wiggle room to deal with the people who won't pay asking price for anything on these types of things.

I see what you're saying. I'm just of the mindset that I want to get rid of shit easily and quickly. There's people who want to haggle for sport, lol, I get it. I don't like to which is why I price it low. She can definitely work the situation to get more money, I'm sure. I'd rather just sell it outright for $30 than have to haggle and maybe get $35.
