Does anyone have a hiking backpack they love? DH is looking for one with a metal frame and is easy to put on/take off. DS isn't old enough to be carried on our backs. But we want to keep our eyes open now for any deals/sales.
Also, are there any strollers that are good for hiking. Nothing major, but definitely "off road". We took our City Mini GT the other day, and it worked pretty well. But I know it's not made for that kind of terrain. I was assuming a Bob stroller would be good for that kind of situation.
We have a BOB and I would never take it hiking. If your GT worked where you went, then a BOB would definitely work and would probably be even better with it's larger wheels. But I would rather take the carrier, every time, but we don't usually hike on stroller friendly trails.
We have the Osprey Poco Plus. We got it from REI. It's awesome and we use it a lot. We have a BOB for walks, often off road through the park, but I'd never be able to take it hiking around here (I hike in the mountains though).
Friends handed us down their kelty carrier. The couple of times I've worn it I've loved it. I didn't like the way you put him in, then put in on - it was just odd for me.
However, I'm not a serious hiker and I find it much easier to get him in and out of the Ergo on our "nature walks".

We were pretty serious hikers when the kids were small and are getting back into it, now that they can hike a couple of miles on their own. The frame back packs suck in comparison to the ergo IMO. The design in no way makes up for the extra weight.
When DD was 3 and 4, we also used a big Mai Tai that I made for her.
We have a Deuter Kid Comfort II and love it. Easy to use and adjustable. DS loves riding in it.
ETA - we got it at REI and used a 20% off coupon and some dividends.
Yes. I'm the hiker with the kid and we got a new pack this year. This one is awesome!!! I did a 6 hour hike with DS1 and DS3 and everyone was mostly comfy the whole time (I say mostly because even a great pack feels heavy after 6 hours with a 26lb kid in it).

We have this one too but we got it from back country. It is great and DD loves it especially since she can see better then other back carriers. We just got the Baby Jogger Summit X3 too. I've only used it on the beach during a recent vacation but it worked great. I think amazon has the 2013 version on sale now as they changed a few things on the 2014 version.
