I'm curious what the substance is. IAAF follows the WADA regulations and there is a lot of stuff that can cause a positive. I have to watch my supplements like whoa thanks to that.
That was my exact reaction. If this is truly accurate and not a false positive, I am just sad. Sad for her choices, for the sport, and her competitors.
Anyone know how common a false positive on two samples (if that's the case) might actually be? Shouldn't they have the technology to weed that out?
ETA: I suppose it totally depends on the substance in question.
I will feel really terribly for her if this turns out to be any kind of false positive, because now her name's been dragged through the mud. I will feel really terribly for the running community if it turns out to be the real deal. So basically this sucks.

It's not common. It's pretty much unheard of. It's also incredibly uncommon that if the A sample is positive that the B sample would be negative since they come from the same urination. The only time I have seen that happen is due to lab error or it is a substance that has a tolerance limit and they were barely over it.

That's what I figured about the A and B sample being virtually the same. What about unknowingly taking something banned? Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but are there natural teas, herbs, supplements that may have trace amounts of illegal chemicals in them? I know it's the athletes responsibility to know that, but could they accidentally screw it up? I truly know nothing about the world of doping or the fine line with supplements you mentioned above.
Also, I forget what your background is and what you compete in. (Sorry!) Is it lifting?

Yeah, lifting. One of the guys that used to train with us got banned for using diuretics 3 months out from a world meet. Dumbass. You don't cut weight that way 3 months out.
Just like getting a ticket for speeding when you don't know the speed limit- your fault. Anything and everything I take I search the WADA list before I take it. That product may be clean usually, but if it is produced in a factory with banned substances there could be cross contamination and that would be on me for taking it, even unknowingly.
And there's some weird things. Vick's makes a little stick VapoInhaler. They contain l-methamphetamine. That will pop on a test. Sucks because I used to use those a lot.
Even if it was a tainted supplement, she can still face a band. There was a case about 10 years ago involving a pro cyclist, Scott Moniger. He was highly respected as a clean athlete. He took a supplement that was tainted that didn't have the full ingredient list on the bottle. He had an unopened container of it and was able to prove that it was the supplement and not an intentional act. He got a 1 year ban with a notation from USA Cycling that the doping was not intentional.

She tested positive for EPO.
Jeptoo is coached by Claudio Berardelli, who also coaches alleged drug cheat Matthew Kisorio as well as Jemima Sumgong, who tested positive but got off on a technicality. Eunice Sum, Duncan Kibet, James Kwambai, Stanley Biwott, Janeth Jepkosgei, Alfred Kirwa Yego and Nancy Lagat are also all coached by Berardelli.
If this is true then honestly--tip of the iceberg.

It appears we read the same forum post on letsrun
I have a love/hate relationship with letsrun. I could go on a rant about a lot of the problems I have with it lol. But for stuff like this, they are on top of it.
ETA: I've heard for a long time that the EA runners aren't exactly running clean..so I'm not really surprised that this is coming out.
