Thank you for this! I love stockings and my earlier conversation with DH about Santa reminded me that he tends to struggle with them since he didn't have one growing up.
I just forwarded that to him, I hope it helps!
anna7602 and curbsideprophet We also fill each other's stockings. Except DH's is typically packed full and mine is...not, lol. Am I a jerk for wanting DH to figure this out and do this for me? The non-stocking gifts he chooses for me are usually fantastic and very thoughtful. He just doesn't "get" stockings, even though he always really likes his.
Hmmm, put me in the I-don't-"get"-stockings category, then. My whole life, it has just been for kids. I learn something new from MMM every day!
DH and I did stockings until we had kids and then stopped. It's just too much to deal with. The kids have been bugging us to put up stockings not only for us but for the cat & hamster too. We may cave thus year.
This is funny because I'm pretty sure nearly every single one of these my mother has used as a stocking stuffer.
Except glow sticks. I question how those aren't crap, but whatever.
I was just looking at this for ideas. But, I find glow sticks useful. I keep them at home and in the car as part of my "emergency" kit. They're nice when we lose power or whatever. I've been surprised at how many I have used out of my car kit, which reminds me I should order more.
They are just pieces of fabric for kids to play with. I didn't make any, I ordered from this shop on Etsy. Her shipping was really fast and the silks are gorgeous.
I have no idea if my 2 year old is going to care for them but I love the idea. Lots of people have said that their kids stuff them in old tissue boxes to pull out, put them in paper towel rolls, dance around with them, use them as capes, wrap up dolls with them, etc. They're for creative play.
I'm reviving this zombie thread to tell you that DS (4) is obsessed with tape. Washi tape is great (especially cheap dollar store washi tape) because it isn't too sticky.
Last year I bought these little finger puppets from Target dollar spot. They were super junky and plastic but I stuck them in DS' stocking anyways. Even though he got a bike, and a train table and every Octonauts toy ever last year, he loved those little finger puppets the most. He called them his " wiggly guys" and slept with them in his bed for 6 MONTHS.
You seriously never know what will be a huge hit.
I love some of those ideas though I am bookmarking this post.
You know what else is great? Window markers for kids. Esp. if you have a patio door. Keeps my kids busy for hours and windexes off when you're done. I usually try to have them do something for the "holiday" or season so it can stay up awhile.
I need to get some washi tape. DD would love that.
And I love glow sticks.....hours of fun you can throw away. For real, my kids find every dark spot in the house for a good 45 minutes, then float them in the tub. I'm okay with junk I can throw away at the end of the day.

Yes window markers are a huge hit in our house - the whole back is glass. Also those gel clings!
