LoveTrains, I get that. It can be. But it's kind of like the square/rectangle thing. I should have said craft beer =/= NECESSARILY high alcohol content beer sold in 750ml bottles.
mmm was all, "Oh, two years old is not old for craft beer!" And she talked about how all this beer is meant to age in the bottle as though ALL craft beer is like that. And then at the end, it was, "Oh, I'm talking about a rather specific type of craft beer that wasn't what OP was buying. HTH!"

In fact, one of my favorite local breweries (technically it's been upgraded from a craft brewery to a regional brewery) specifically says that you should not drink their beer if it's over a year old.
I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say that beer with a high alcohol content that is sold in 750 ml bottles has a 99% chance of being craft beer, but not all craft beer is high ABV and 750 ml bottles, obviously.
Kinda depends on your definition of craft beer and whether Sam Adams or New Belgium fall into that category. Or breweries purchased by large bottlers, like Goose Island.
Craft beer comes in any style, so yeah, a pilsner or something is not going to be good for very long. But there's a much larger variety of styles in craft beer than just the kind that Coors, or whoever has the "born-on" date produces. But whenever I mention aging beer, or drinking something we've had for a year to someone, the response tends to be, "Ew, I wouldn't want to drink old beer!" And you can. It just depends. But the big manufacturers have convinced people that fresh beer is better. (In the OP's case, yes, fresh beer clearly would have been better, though.)
Re: LoveTrains and Sam Adams - I really like their Imperial White. It comes in small bottles (4 packs, though) and is like 10% ABV. Really good, though!

But I was specifically referring to ESF's comment that two year old beer is old. Not necessarily.
I knew it wasn't +v+. she lives in NYC and has managed to survive there for years now - she knows better than to engage a nutso clerk who is screaming at her about God and beer.
I used to work in a chain grocery store in college and we had people bring back beer all the time (cheap beer & crafts, they all go bad). We never really questioned it, just did an exchange. I'd find a new grocery store to shop at though.
For some reason, I thought +v+ too. I think it was just the live in a city thing, however, not that that makes any sense.
Just saw this now! Not me! I'm way too lazy to return beer (though note: I'm MM enough to drink skunked beer instead of throwing it out). Also, no way I'd use an AE for something like this. I love crazy shit like this and am excited when it happens to me.
LOL. I drank a glass of wine that had gone bad a couple months ago when I was home alone. I didn't think it tasted good but blamed it on my lack of appreciation for red wine. My H tasted it the next day and said "if it tastes like a dirty sock then THROW IT AWAY!"
This name also crossed my mind too, I think its her writing style.
And yes msmerymac, I know that some kinds of craft beer can be aged. But come on. $10 for a 6 pack doesn't scream "bottle aged for your pleasure" though, KWIM? I can't think of a single thing that sells 6 for $10 is going to be good if it has been sitting around in a bottle for two years before purchase. Wine included.

Lol. I'll go buy some Franzia and try that out for you. On second thought... no.
Beer absolutely expires. And even if the beer was bad, it's not the shop owner's fault so he needed to just chill. Do a refund and deal with the distributor.
If he doesn't want to do a refund, just say no and move on.
I think it's the one with the two dogs in her siggy. Not sure why, just from the tone and writing style. Also, 4 pages in, she hasn't commented
Are you talking about me? Or one of the other many posters with 2 dogs in her siggy? lol.
If you are talking about me, nope! I live in Iowa, no city here. But I do love beer and would probably have reacted the same way as the OP. I don't understand the need for an AE though. I've posted about way more personal stuff than this without an AE!

This back and forth is killing me. Beer is not this serious y'all.
