So @gracechen - Do you think Adnan did it? I am starting to think maybe he did BUT i don't think it was pre meditated like the police/Jay suggested/said.

@gracechen - I don't think you mishead. I just googled lol. Apparently that is what he said! So strange.
@soudesafinado - I think you are probably right about having a large role. I feel like Adnan should just get over his claim of innocence then?
I think the biggest thing that bothers me about this whole story is
1) The fact that police investigate a case to fit their theory to the detrimment of other info. I mean I get you want to support your theory, but how do you ignore potential DNA evidence?
2) MY God juries suck. Even if he is guilty, I don't think the case was strong enough for him to be convicted.

Oh, yes, as I was listening today and I died a little inside when the independent detective that Sarah (?) hired talked about Jay's inconsistencies and how they (the original detectives) had to do what was best to build the case, not really seeking out for the complete truth.
I agree that there didn't seem to be enough strong evidence against Adnan. I also agree w/ @soudesafinado re: Jay playing a larger role.
I hope that I didn't miss too many details because I basically binge-listened to the series in one day.
Funny story. I have met that independent detective. He came to talk to my class when I was working on the Innocence Project.
Yeah, I have been reading recaps. I listen at work so sometimes I miss stuff since I get distracted with work or something.
I thought it was intersting how the latest story about Jay, the guy Chris mentioned that Jay was at the pool hall with him. I mean if that is the case why wouldn't they just tell that story. And why didn't thepolice interview the Chris guy to begin with? So odd.
Even if Adnan is guilty it seems out of character for what I know of him. Like he didn't have a history of violence and has not had any history of violence in prison. Strangling someone is so violent and so personal.
Did they ever say what she was strangled with? I thinK i missed that. i was just surrpised she didn't have any skin under her finger nails, you think with strangulation she would claw at her killer
I feel like the case they presented to the jury was a strong enough one in that room at that time. Remember, we have a lot of information the jurors didn't have, so what we're hearing is that there were holes in Jay's story, there were problems with the cell phone pings etc.
And no one presented an alternate view of what might have happened, they just said Adnan did it or no he didn't but we can't really tell you why you should believe that because he has no alibi.
Yeah, that is a very good point. I am not sure how/why his atty never presented an alternative theory. I mean they could at least have pinned it on Jay or something. Enough to present reasonable doubt.
I also wonder how Hae's family feels with all this hubbub. I mean a real person died here, this isn't an ep of Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Yeah, I wondered that too. It must be hard to re-hear all of it. Expecially when Sarah talks about them having sex all over the place. Well, that and just everything else, but it just probably reminds them about a life they didn't know she had, which must be hard.
I also get really frustrated whenever Adnan's lawyer is discussed. I just feel like she didn't give a fuck about getting him off -maybe this is how I'm supposed to feel, maybe I'm off {shrugs}.

I think I read something about her that she was a really decent defense attorney, so maybe she is just coming off wrong or she made a mistake? I mean maybe she really felt he was guilty and there wasn't much of a defense she could put on.

I thought they said in the beginning that his defense attorney had been in trouble for messing stuff up (other cases) before she died, and that's why Adnan's cousin contacted Sarah and got the whole ball rolling.
I'm a couple of episodes behind but I want to know more about Don.

It looks like there were financial issues and trouble with her not filing pleadings for clients towards the end. She had MS and was getting progressively sicker, so I wonder how much that played a role in her decline. It looks like she was a pretty amazing attorney at one point.

I am so addicted!
I think Adnan had something to do with it, but no way Jay is innocent. I think he played a much bigger role. Lying liar who lies! So many different versions of his story.
But if he is innocent, WHY didn't Adnan try to call Hae's phone when she went missing?? That just doesn't make sense to me.

I wish there was an app so I could play it in the car. I remember the case when it happened, they went to a school near mine and were just 2 years behind me.

I use the podcast app on my iPhone but I played it from the website pulled up in Safari too. (I'm sure android phones have podcast players too.)

I use the Stitcher app to listen to Serial & lots of other podcasts on my phone
I think most of us are about the same age (in high school during January 1999) so that's what makes me so invested too.
I don't want to google too much and hear any real spoilers beyond what has aired but how many episodes is this?
I don't think they have said, but someone please correct me if I am wrong. I think it's until they get to the bottom of the story, however long that may take?
Sadly I think Jay and Adnan are both involved. Jay's lies are suspicious (and he clearly knew where her car was), and Adnan didn't call Hae, can't remember what he did that day (I mean, when the cops call, don't you replay the last time you saw her over and over and over again), and had some call with Aisha.
I am excited about the development an episode or so ago about looping other people into the case.

I think you are right, but I still can't figure out a motive. The broken-heart thing doesn't sit right with me. I feel like there is something else that hasn't been said. Or maybe that really is all it is and I just think it's so crazy to go from having your heart broken to strangling someone and burying them in a shallow grave.

I agree about motive. I think it could have been heat of the moment with either Jay or Adnan. Hormones in teens are real, yo. I don't believe any of the premeditated stuff (and if it was, they were doing it wrong).

Yeah, I don't believe premeditated either. I could see it as a crime of passion. I just don't get professing your innocence for so long I guess. I mean if it was a crime of passion wouldn't he have gotten less time then pre-meditated murder? It seems like he should have known police/DA/juries weren't going buy the innocence thing since he was so clueless and his friend turned him in.

The innocence thing is interesting. I keep wondering if they are going to talk about how drugs might have played a role (since Jay said they were smoking, and it wouldn't have been out of character). Maybe his memory is impaired somehow? I also find the not testifying thing interesting (even with the whole thing about the jury not being able to hold it against him, since they clearly did).

Yeah, that made me mad about the jury. But I think it is pretty common for a defendant not to testify.
