DH's new dept is having a bake off in a few weeks and I don't know what to make. Being new, I feel a lot of pressure!
My signature dish is apple pie. It's delicious. However, I feel apple pie doesn't have a wow factor, so to speak.
I don't think my Christmas cookies are going to be baked before then or I might submit some of those, but I think I'm going to wait and do them the next weekend with my mom.
Pies are my thing. The other top ones I make are a peanut butter chocolate pie and a black forest cherry pie (kind of like a brownie with cherries on top).
I also have made a pumpkin cheesecake that people have raved about but I feel by Dec the pumpkin thing is over.
I don't do cakes/cupcakes well, they always taste good but are not pretty at all.

Oh, and to throw a kink in the plans, apparently they are not able to refrigerate or heat up anything. So basically it's going to be sitting out all day unless I want to take it up in the afternoon.

I made a red velvet cheesecake for a Christmas party last year that got rave reviews. Lots of work, but incredible. It was layers of red velvet cake and cheesecake--similar to the Cheesecake Factory one. I've got the recipe pinned if you want it.

I would like the recipe! My H loves the one at Cheesecake factory.

That is my favorite dessert ever! How hard is it to make? I'm usually an out-of-the-box or apple crisp kind of baker.

@ginkoleaf - It wasn't hard that I recall and I'm not a fabulous baker. It was my first attempt at cheesecake and I had no issues there. I bought the cake strips she mentioned and they seemed to help with keeping the red velvet mostly equal sizes, so I didn't end up having to cut the layers to match. Mainly, I just remember it being time consuming. People went crazy for it, though.
If you want to make something you've made before, I would go with the chocolate peanut butter pie. I always hate trying new recipes for people, and that pie sounds really good.
